What does one do on a day at Dock, with the sun shining and nothing else to do (altho'there is always something to do on a boat!)?
Why, get the sewing machine out and make a new Dinghy Cover, of course.
8 hrs, 11 yards of Olefin, and a sturdy little domestic sewing machine, set up on the Cockpit Table.
All done!
It is always good to be creative, but sewing certainly takes me to my Happy Place:)
Waz helped where and when he could. IT was very physical moving 11 yards of fabric around to sew, and I needed him there to straighten and consult with where he wanted certain things like ties. He undid the old one, which was disintegrating by the day, and we used that as a pattern. it worked like a charm, and we spread it all out on the dock...being one of Hoppies rusty old barges. We put down a tarp first and then cut on that. It as a bit back breaking but we got the job done, between us.
So, that is all there is to report, today.
We helped the last of the three boats off the dock...the other two had gone before we got out there in our PJ's, this morning, but we helped untie the ropes and they were gone down river.
Our next door neighbors, Ken and Terry had to find a flight back to Long Island for the funeral of Ken's brother, who died yesterday. They got sorted pretty quickly and then Fern took them to St Louis airport. They got there with 45 mins to spare before catching their flight, apparently.
I stopped long enough to take this photo of sunrise, this morning
The logs are still coming down the river and the debris really hasn't let up. Where is it all coming from??
This was one of the better rafts, to go by. Glad we weren't in the river trying to find a way around this as it went past the Wing Dam. They come way out into the river and are rather treacherous when the river is in flood, as you cant see them...the wing dam, that is. We had a small yacht go down the river on our side, today, and he was going rather fast towards the large wing dam that juts out behind Hoppies Marina. Hoppy got on the radio and told him to make a quick turn to port, or we might have had a rescue on our hands. He would surely have run into that rock wall!. We will have to be VERY vigilant when going down the river tomorrow.
The size of some of the logs is frightening!
Well, it is 8.45pm, and the old man is snoring. I wont be far behind him, as we have an early start tomorrow. Pray for no fog, will you. Today's boats left with no fog, but turning the corner, they came into pea soup fog. Lots of valleys that wont see the sun until later in the morning. We will have to take extra care. Cant see ANYTHING in the fog, and it is very dangerous.
Night Night
