Life on terra firma isn't all it is cracked up to be, but more change is in the wind. Read on for the latest!

Monday 5 September 2016

First day on the Job a the Chateau.

We woke around 8am with bright light coming through the window. There is only a lace curtain there, and so we will wake with daybreak.
Lovely to open the windows and hear....cows clanging their feeding bins, just down the bottom of the driveway at the Dairy. The smell of Silage is in the air, but we pay it no mind. We are Kiwis from farming towns, so this is nothing new to us.

Armed with the hose I had taken out the night before,  I went out after a breakfast of Eggs benedict (minus the ham), to wash down the Morning Patio off the formal dining room. I have bought a scrubbing brush to attack the mold and moss, at a later date. The moss will deteriorate the concrete, which is fairly delicate anyway.
We worked solidly for several hours before Waz brought a cup of tea out to the patio, and we sat in the hot sun and surveyed the lovely view.

Most satisfying to have that all clean!
We needed a few things from the hardware store, so off we went into Guer to the Bricomarche. We were sure to check the opening hours, this time. We made a trip last year that turned out to be a dud, because we didn't know that shops close between 12 and 2pm...lunch, of course! We are so spoiled in the USA...things are open almost all the time. Not that I think it is a good thing!
We accomplished what we set out for, at the hardware store, and managed to get out of there without speaking English! woohoo!...well, I did. Waz ran into our English friend Andrew, who works there, so they had a conversation  in the mother tongue!
One of the tasks the owners have set us is fixing the kitchen table, so we needed some parts for that. Also some hinges and screws and I found that scrubbing brush, and we walked out of the just over 50 euros poorer! No matter, we will be reimbursed.

This is the drawing room where we spend our evenings. I'm actually sitting in that chair on the far right, presently, and Waz is taking a nap on the sofa.
The woodwork in some places is stunning. I love the Chimney! This is the formal living room.

Looking from the formal living room into the formal dining room.
The formal dining room looks out at the gorgeous view, and opens onto the Morning Terrace.

The owners have collected pieces of furniture from all over the world. Their nick nacks are so interesting, but terrible to keep dust-free!
The kitchen is a lovely light room, and with the windows open, a breeze enters.
The smallest room, just off the main hallway.
The entry hall with typical French Stairway. The bottom door leads to the basement which is voluminous. There are four levels, in total.
We went back to the supermarket on the way home and I couldn't resist these quail eggs. that teaspoon is really small, by the way! Aren't they the prettiest eggs!
We also picked up a large tail piece of Wild Atlantic Salmon...WILD!  this I topped with those eschallots I forgot yesterday for dinner, and two fried quail eggs each. Drizzled with hollandaise, and with fresh salad, this was a delightful meal.

We went outside to do some more watering, as the plants were still looking droopy and thirsty. The light  is soft and lovely at this time of day...8.30pm. Coming inside for a cup of tea and a sit and read the BBC news on computer, is a great way to end the day. We were tired, so we slept very well!
