2nd August, Saturday.
We were a bit tired of the ‘normal’ breakfast, and Warren
suggested I make Cinnamon Buns or scones instead…well, sugar and white
flour…hmmm….maybe.
We had risen after 8am...late for us, but we both felt
rested. The bay actually had about 21 boats anchored here last night, but they
were all in bed by the time we retired (about 10.30pm)…which made for a
peaceful night. Some cleared out during the morning, at various hours, and we
came back after a dinghy tour at noon, to find only 15 left.
I made Cinnamon Pinwheel scones…lots of brown sugar and
cinnamon. Haven’t made them for 8 months or more, but they turned out really
well and were delicious. Just two filled us up and kept us going for most of
the day, surprisingly…well, maybe! :)
It was our intention to go Tiki-Touring this morning, so we
lathered ourselves up with sunscreen and insect repellant (which doesn’t work,
by the way!!!) and made our way SLOWLY through parts unknown. Oh yes, did I
mention we had our chart in a plastic bag, with us? Good thinking, 99!
We firstly went down between the islands just ahead of us,
slowing to nothing when we could see the bottom…the water is sooo clear, and we
could see the rocks! Woohoo!
We then went blatting up Twelve Mile Bay…time for Waz to
open the throttle. Lots of other boaters out and about going 100 miles an hour,
so I was airborne some of the time, crossing their wakes. Riding wakes is a bit
like trail riding a motorcycle…you just stand on the pedals and bend your knees
(in this case I hang on to the rope at the front of the dinghy with which I fashion
a hand-hold and bend my knees, standing on the bottom of the dinghy) and
ride-em. FunJ
Off on our next adventure, dinghy style
We had been told we HAD to go to the Indian owned Marina,
half way up Twelve Mile Bay (would that
be 6 miles up?) and get an ice-cream. Well, we did. One of the other reasons we
didn’t need any other food for most of the day!
The Marina was very busy as it is the only fuel dock in a
long way. We were flabbergasted to find not only all kinds of boats, but cars
everywhere….Oh! So this is where all the cottagers leave their vehicles and put
their boats in the water to boat to their cottages? Probably a good number do!
Cost of leaving your car there?? $10 per day!
We tied the dinghy up and went into the general store kind
of place for our ice-cream. I finally got the Kawartha flavor Orange and
Licorice. It is divine! Waz opted for Cotton Candy, which was the most ghastly
blue and pink colors, lol. This was his second time around with this flavor.
One waffle cone .75c, one scoop (really two) ice-cream $1.75. These prices were
the best so far.
We sat on a seat by the fuel dock, ate our ice-creams and
watched the frantic busy-ness going on
around us. Going back down the Bay to our anchorage in the dinghy was a
blast...full tilt and up and over wakes at full speedJ
The cottage at the end of the bay where the boat is anchored. We went by there in the dinghy.
A private island with cottage and boats. You can just see the side of the cottage.
Coming back into the bay .
We almost didn’t know what to do with ourselves when we got
‘home’. That was soon fixed when I went upstairs to open the windows…the
plastic was covered with bugs…dead and dying, and the deck at the back of the
fly deck was covered in dead bugs. Oh joy! Waz connected the two hoses together
and turned the foredeck wash down tap on. This draws water from the bay, so it
was fresh cold water. Everything got a cold wash down, and then I decided to do
the sides of the boat as well, as the walkway around the boat was also a bug
cemetery. Blech! Nothing like the crunch of bugs, underfootL
We washed as many of the bugs off as we could. Spiders have
also taken over the boat, and their sticky black poop stains the white gel coat
something awful. It is soooo hard to get off. They don’t take too kindly to me swatting them
away with my yellow cloth, and some are openly defiant, standing their ground,
or making themselves so small or into little balls, to make it harder for me to
pick them up.
We had been invited, as I said yesterday, to have 5pm
nibbles and drinks with Jack and Martina on their 41ft yacht. Their dock mates
from Bay Port Marina arrived late in the afternoon, and after a swim (theirs)
Helen and Garfield joined us on board White Ice. What delightful company! We
were served champagne to start, and Martina had prepared some lovely nibbles,
including one of the favorites I had long forgotten about…smoked oysters! She
even gave me a parting gift of a tin of them. So thoughtful!
We ate, drank and laughed together, and parted after the sun
had gone a bright orange and below the horizon. The mozzies were out in force!
Helen and Garfield came over to the boat to exchange boat
cards and we gave them the .50c tour of the boat, seeing as we had been
discussing her (the boat). These yachting people are amazed at the space inside
that we enjoy. I know why we aren’t doing this trip in a yacht…I would have to
tie myself up in knots getting in and out of it, so small are some of the
spaces. I do have a romantic notion of sailing (somewhere safe!)…nothing quite
like hoisting a sail and slicing through the waves. Will keep that one to
myself (Waz doesn’t read the blog, so it’s just between you and me, ok?).
Before we went over to Jack and Martina’s, Waz showed me on
the chart where we would have to go, tomorrow…the channel is narrow for a bit
and he offered to take me, in the
dinghy, through the narrowest parts, which were not that far away. It really
helped for me to go through the markers and see where we have to go. I have
become a screaming meme over the proximity to rocks and the narrowness of the
channels etc…Being such a visual person, actually seeing the distances and
where the markers are helped me considerably. He is so considerate, and wants
me to be comfy doing this, bless himJ
It can’t be much fun for him, having a first mate who is a nut case, under
these circumstances (never mind that I’m a nut case anyway!).
It is after 9pm…
We actually have reasonable TV reception here. Waz is
watching 20/20 while I write this. We have had our cup of tea and dessert and
are sitting quietly before heading for bed. We are planning on an early start,
around 7am, tomorrow. The alarm will go off at 6am, I fear.
Well, time for me to stop and prepare for the day tomorrow.
I have made a large cole slaw and I have taken some cooked chicken out of the
freezer for lunch tomorrow. We might have the left over scones for breakfast,
which may be on the run, I fear. We plan on getting to Parry Sound, tomorrow,
and though it is Sunday and in the middle of a Long Weekend, we should be able
to find a good anchorage.
