After leaving Rochefort en Terre, we went further south/west towards the coast. We had decided the night before that we would find water! It is always our dream to live with a view of the water, or at least somewhere we can get to water pretty darned quick.
I literally stopped the car in the middle of the road to take this photo, so different was the spire on this church. I don't remember the name of the little town, but this was quite something. Most of them are tall and skinny and we can see them for miles, from the hills.
This was the first Christ on the Cross that I have been able to safely take a photo of. The reason for this being, that they are generally at cross-roads, literally. I have a theory, that this is the literal meaning of 'Cross Roads'. In these parts, as I am sure, in other parts of France, almost every cross-roads and intersection has a cross or a saint or Virgin Mary in a little shelter on the side of the road. There is one on each side of the road down from the Chateau. Curious!
We parked the car at the far end of La Roche Bernard, on the Vilaine River, and walked down the main road towards the sea...well, the river, anyway.
On the way we met with these gorgeous hats, which I couldn't convince Waz to spring for...he said they wouldn't stay on my head in a stiff sea breeze...so we passed on the these, but I had to show you how special they were:)
Down and down we went towards the water. On the way, of course we found plenty to photograph, and this is just one...
The person who lives here....right on the side of the road, is a Music Teacher...hmm..wonder how we figured that out!
And...as it was lunch time, we went into the town square and found a Creperie. We have avoided them for some unknown reasons...too many of them? Too common?? who knows. This time we sat where directed...you do that, you know. THEY tell you where THEY want you to sit...pointing at the seat from behind the counter.
Well, we sat next to an English couple. They come to Brittany often, just loving the Golfe De Morbihan, where we are now.
We ordered a Gallette...large crispy Crepe with smoked salmon and cheese, for me, and a meat of some kind and blue cheese from the Auvergne for him. Yummy. So nice in fact, we decided to have a sweet crepe for dessert. This is a photo of Waz's...Caramel apple and cream. I had black cherry confiture (jam) and cream. again, very yummy, and sufficient for lunch. We had a Café crème to finish.
Lunch wasn't that filling, actually, and we were starving by the time we arrived home around 5.30pm.
In the meantime, the sun was sufficiently warm for us to take our jackets and scarf off, and enjoy the day without shivering. The wind can be quite nippy!.
Again, there are many Artist's Artelier in the village, and this was most in evidence on the sides of the shops. This one caught our eye, in particular:) It reminded me of my Grandmother who had a rope ladder in her upstairs bedroom for any event. I had to giggle when I saw this...I'm sure my Mom will too when she sees this:)
All kinds of fun things above doors, and we enjoyed the smiles they brought. Of course we had to photograph them all!
Love this one, in someone's front yard.
FINALLY! The ocean...or what would be if we were a few miles further down towards the Atlantic.
Having scrambled about over these lovely rocks, we made our way down to water level. Funny how we always find our way to a Marina! 90% of these boats were sail boats, strangely..or not:)
I'm standing on the little bridge at the end f the marina to take this photo. There was an apartment for sale just off to my right, 246,000euros. It was the ideal place...well, until we found another more appropriate one...
White Hibiscus! It was hot enough in this place to have banana palms and fan palms too.
THIS is the place we decided we should live. It overlooks one of the many Marinas, and there is room for a few sheep and perhaps some hens, and a vege garden, lol.
Swans were not far away, and ever graceful. A few tourists around, but thankfully most of them have gone home! More space and time for us to enjoy our surroundings without the summer hoards.
This is where we are...up the Vilaine River...yes the same one in Redon, further up river.
So, after our visit to this location, we thought to follow the road around the coast to Penestin . There we found a little beach beside a fish cannery or processing plant, which was rather ripe smelling, but deciding to go up the walkway rather that to the beach, we were delighted to find a lovely view, albeit of some English people swimming:) Being only 6 hours from the south of England by ferry, Brittany is a favorite place for the English to vacation. Penestin had plenty of closed up summer holiday homes, just back from the beach.
Such a pretty walk, and there were plenty of people out walking, which was great to see. This walkway goes for miles around the coast. There is a real movement to revegetate the dunes too.
And so we finished our day out around 4.30pm, and headed home. We didn't stop anywhere, as the worms were biting, after our light crepe lunch and we were anxious for a cuppa and some food.
A work at home day tomorrow, and then we will find somewhere else to visit..perhaps by the sea?:)
