We like to go out for breakfast on a Sunday morning, like many others, we find. We have learned to get out there earlier, rather than later, when the Church crowds stand waiting at the doors of popular restaurants, from about 9.45am onwards.
We had arranged with Stefie, to take her with us, while Len slept in. The one day of the week he gets to do that. We decided on John Ski's Breakfast Restaurant again, as we had had the least disasters there:). Last time we went, Warren's poached eggs were not dead enough, but we waited so long, we didn't feel like complaining and sending them back for further cooking.
This time, Waz's eggs were like baseballs, the bacon was dead and gone to heaven and the Hashbrowns were dark and crispy! woohoo!!! they got EVERYTHING just right this time around:)
Stefie opted for the House Benedict, which disappeared pretty fast....she is eating for two at the moment, and I ordered the Bacon Cheese and Spinach Omelet with a side of Hash browns. I ate very little of the hash browns, as this is white potato and not on my list of 'To Eat's'. I LOVE hash browns, so this is a bit of a hardship for me. However, there is a goal in sight and I don't want to keep compromising that goal....Weight loss! I have dropped two dress sizes already, and have another two to go. I am becoming more vigilant about what I eat, the more weight I lose.
Breakfast finished, we abandoned the table to the next diners....of whom there were so many. When we turned the corner around the front of the restaurant, in the car, we could see that prospective diners were everywhere!!! and it was only 9.45am, so the Church crowd were not even there yet. Note to self...go EARLIER next time!
We came back to the boat and sat chatting with Stefie for an hour or so. She had things to do for the rest of the day, so we all went our sep. ways.
Waz has been spending a few days in our master bathroom, attending to our toilet. Almost literally in the S**T! He has installed a 10 gallon tank in and under the closet in the bathroom, with a pump attached to aid the flow of sewerage from our toilet, which is a long way from the large waste tank, TO the tank.
In the process, he found that years of neglect of the waste system have meant that there was a HUGE build-up of Uric acid in the lines. It is a wonder the loo worked at all!! Well, it didn't really, which is why he was down there with his head in it all.
It took most of yesterday for him to clear the pipe...patience was required!!!...and get it all working properly. WOW! What a difference.
WE have also noticed that the bubbler (to aerate the contents) in the waste tank works really well to keep the smell out of the cabins. Yay! no more night time stinkies!!!
Meanwhile (Sorry, not photos of any of this...you wouldn't have wanted to see the mess!)...I had all the seat cushions out on the dock for cleaning. Moisture gets into everything and mold forms almost everywhere, so it is a chore keeping on top of it all. I had cleaned the cushions not long after we arrived in Pt Charlotte, but lots of rain and humid weather have done their thing, and they needed scrubbing again.
Fortunately an over 80F day helped dry them all, as they got pretty wet in the process of cleaning. I always like to use 'Green' products on the boat, because so much of it goes into the water, and we don't like to foul.
Most of the mold stains didn't budge, but the other stains did, and we now have much whiter cushions. I will need to make new covers in the near future, though, these ones are discombobulating!
I went to JoAnn's in the afternoon, to see what Sunbrella fabric was available locally. They didn't have any at the smaller store near us, so I will have to go to the huge one further up the road, into Pt Charlotte proper.
It has helped that we now cover the upstairs (fly bridge) cushions with a tarpaulin when rain threatens, and that has kept them from getting wet and consequently molding. Sun is partly to blame for the deterioration, also. These are the original covers, so that makes them 14 yrs old. Pretty good innings, I would say.
It is tempting to make the new cushions colored, but in time they would fade. I don't like white/tan because they show the dirt and are hard to keep clean. There has to be a compromise here!
Two of the cushions were left on top of the table overnight to finish drying. The foam rubber inside got pretty wet, I would say.
The pilot seat on the fly deck is probably the worst off. This gets a lot of wear and tear, and the stain on the end of the back is evidence that people have stood with their soiled hands, holding onto the seat back, just there.
We may yet be sitting here for another month or more, due to further snow and ice in the northern states that we have to pass through to get to Canada. This may give us the opportunity we need to replace the covers. Stand by!
Waz is sorting out the company accounts, this being the beginning of a new month.
We also need to go over to the office of our host and install Skype for them. Waz promised to do this a year ago, and time didn't allow...this time! We will also do that at home for them, so we and they can keep in touch, especially with a baby almost here:)
It appears Home Depot is on our list of things to do, today. Waz visited the local Ace Hardware many times in the course of doing the Loo, but this one required a Home Depot visit. He hasn't told me what it is, yet!
Well, time is flying, and it is almost lunch time...again. I will go down to the neighbors yard and check on the plants I repotted for her and the garden that has been resurrected, and see if they have been watering. Another neighbor has asked for some help replanting the front of their house. They are part time residents, so they will need something to survive the summer...hmmm...Hibiscus? This area gets lots of rain in summer, so they might survive if planted now.
Waz is almost done with his accounting, and I have almost finished my cup of tea.
Ciao for now..have a lovely day!
