How easy it is to forget the date and day. One day really does look so much like the others, until we see all the boat traffic and we get the message...uh oh! Must be a weekend!
We were up before 6am, waking to another lovely day. I went for a walk to the far end of the dock, and all was still. Most boats were still all locked up and their occupants sleeping. We put the coffee on and I heated the griddle for pancakes. We had one dead banana to put in the mix (necessary). I only make 100% Whole wheat banana/blueberry (fresh) buttermilk pancakes. We eat them with whipped cream! Very yummy!
Breakfast cleaned up, we took the bikes off the boat, geared up and took off back the way we had walked yesterday, with some variations. Of course we did our usual :What's down there?" routine and followed our noses. We talked to some folks selling their trailer home....very pretty garden!!! and biked through a trail between trees. This got us back to town faster than if we had taken the streets. It was hot in the sun and humid, whether in the trees or sun!
The Town Dock at Sylvan Beach, before all the punters go walking and boating. Notice the generator in the foreground?
A few early birds out walking....wall to wall boats on the dock.
The first Pontoon boat going out onto the lake.
Waz waiting in the shade for me to finish taking photos:)
It looked a bit different this morning...no kids and no boats!
Empty beach except for the odd dog swimming and the odd dog walker.
We are amazed at all the boats, and wonder where they all go for the winter! Heated storage??? must be!
and oh, glory be...a Peony!:)
and gorgeous clematis on a white picket fence.:)
Im tardy again...Waz is sooo patient! Typical homes on a pretty street.
More boats, this time in a planned community of trailer homes...nice ones! and a park for RV's.
..and we found ourselves opposite the town wall. You can see how much our stern is poking out from the end. The boat in front could have moved forward, but we were firm where we were.
This big boy has three V8 engines!
I fell in love with this cutie...just the littlest tug boat, for pleasure.
The canal front park.
Not pink Flamingo! wow! These must be Ibis?? no...they don't have a curved beak. Not sure what they are!
Every home should have a canon at the mailbox.
I guess this one is VERY dead!
We went down this lovely tree lined track...we went fast enough not to let any insects settle on us. We are very aware of the mosquitos carrying West Nile Fever...and have been warned about them numerous times. There are also ticks, in the forest! hmmm..
Getting back to the boat, we were going to give her a small clean, but it was already 11am, and hot, so we decided to just kick back in the cool, inside.
Looking around at the boating activity, the lovely day, the almost flat water on the lake, put us in the mood to get the heck out of Dodge. We were tired of being curiosities on the town dock (people walking past and peering in!) so we made the snap decision to cross Lake Oneida this afternoon.
It took all of ten mins to prepare the boat to cast off, and we were joining the line of boats going out into the lake, through the breakwater.
...and we are off!...and gone!
We have the reflector screens on to keep the heat out of the cabin. They work a treat!
...and we joined the parade of boats going out through the breakwater and into the lake.
The beach was busy as ever by noon!:)
It didn't take us long to exit the canal and into the lake.
Meanwhile, almost 20 miles across the lake...we are coming to some little islands before entering Brewerton on the other side.
Large homes on the far shore.
and we are entering Brewerton at just two hours later.
This lovely home was on the corner as we entered the narrows to town.
...and we are docked outside a restaurant that we can stay at for just 48 hrs. Small boats came and went for the rest of the afternoon. The parade of boats was as inconsiderate on this side of the lake as the last. These boaters think they can pass at speed and there are no consequences. If it were their boat that was hopping up and down at the dock because of inordinate speed and wake, they would be the firs to complain! sigh!
The restaurant opposite.
The parade on the Brewerton Side of the lake.
Babies everywhere! These fluffy little ones were some of the youngest Canada Geese babies.
...and this fella thought he might score a freebee from the many fishermen on the dock. He is a tri-color Heron.
and here we are....
I took a small stroll down the road to see what this birdhouse was all about...love it!:)
Ducklings!
Love the plumage of this Heron.
We ate on the boat tonight, despite being in close proximity to the restaurant...not going there!!, and enjoyed a salmon with broccolini and asparagus. We had some strawberries and cream for dessert, with a coffee, on the fly deck. It is threatening to rain, but hopefully we wont see any of it. We covered up, nonetheless.
We have 29 miles to travel tomorrow and 4 locks. This takes us closer to Lake Ontario. We are watching the weather on the Lake, because we need a fine still day to go from Oswego to just past Rochester, and Point Breeze, where we will stop for a week or more. Our mail is going to our friends there, and we look forward to catching up with Robyn and Dave, our Gulf of Mexico crossing buddies, back in November!
That's it for now. I have caught up with everything that has happened in the past few days, and now I can go to bed with nothing hanging over my head. I will sleep well tonight:)
