Leaving Le Mur for Paris

The sun had not yet appeared when we were ready to leave the Manoir, pictured here. That door leads to the Medieval Dining Room, where we did all our computer work, while here.

I can show you our apartment, now that we have left it.
This is the living room. The sofa pulls out to make a double bed, which means that the sofa is not comfy to sit on!:(
Those carved chairs are actually surprisingly comfy, with a cushion on them. We did enjoy the fire each night for the last 10 days or so.
 The dining room and kitchen

The kitchen was very functional, and worked well for us. Because the French market so often, we didn't need a large fridge. It makes us wonder why we all have these huge fridges, in the states.

The front entry, straight into the living quarters.

The Bathroom and shower

We had been asked to install a new box spring bed base on our bed. This is the old one which was so heavy we couldn't lift it any further than the outside of the front door. Ray, who does some work around the Chateau will no doubt be tasked with taking that away.

Waz has just locked everything up, and the car is packed up and ready to go. We decided to walk up to the Chateau and take some last photos. The light is horrid, so the photos are not good.

We stopped at the apartment we have been renovating, on the way up the driveway. There are still a lot of things needing attention, but Ray will have to do those too, I guess.

It looks lovely, but is highly impractical...lol.
 Kitchen and Living room

There is only one bedroom, and we didn't do much in here. it actually needs an overhaul, but not this time around.

One of the helpers, Suzanne, took our photo on the front steps of the Chateau, with our canine friends, Katy on the left, and Robbie on the right. We will miss them....and the cats.

We drive the 40 mins to Rennes to catch the TGV to Paris. There is so much construction going on around the station that it took us two goes to find the street we had to be in to return the rental car.

Yes, we now have TWO bags, instead of just the one we came with. and no, we didn't fill it with souvenirs. We cant do that , living on the boat.

It is a two hour train ride from Rennes, in Brittany, to Montparnasse Station on the Left Bank, Paris. As you exit the huge station there, you are confronted by the Montparnasse tower.

The Station is almost worse than huge airports. People everywhere!

Our train whisked us along at around 180kph, and it wasn't until we were passed by an other TGV going the other way that we realized just how fast we were going. It was a bit scary, to be honest. Made me have nasty thoughts of what a mess there would be if there was a collision! ack! don't think like that, silly girl!

We were late arriving, by about 5 mins, so we were late getting to the apartment. Blandine, our Airbnb host for our 5 nights here, had a train to catch, so she left a friend to meet us at the door to the apartment block ,which is also a school....this is typical of inner city apartments, and we are certainly in the middle of the city. Our apartment is just one street over from the Boulevard St Michel. on the Left Bank.
This is the kitchen in the apartment. This being a larger apartment, with three bedrooms and a large living room....This is the home of our host, who has packed up her two children and gone to Brittany for the time we occupy their home.

Waz immediately turned on the TV to find out if we could get any of the Rugby World Cup games on there. We can! and we have been watching some of them since. We opened the windows wide. This is a skinny street, so the apartments opposite aren't that far away. Though these windows are double paned, you can still hear everything that goes on , on the street below. We are aware that the opposite neighbors know there is someone different in this apartment...they keep a good eye on us!

Out the master bedroom window, is a tar sealed area with these lovely Plain Trees. The school or Lycee, is just out there!

the neighbors across the road

After settling in, we went to the Monoprix that we passed on the way here. Because we walked....a long way, I might add...trailing our bags behind us....we backtracked to the supermarket, which was something else. Not only is food much more expensive here than in Brittany, but people are more frenetic, and the supermarket was a crazy house...it was also down under, as is so much of Paris. It is amazing to see how much lives below street level.

These apartments are typical of Paris.
Late afternoon sun on a street corner with cafĂ©. How Parisian!

We bought just enough food for the few days we are here, and we may have to find a supermarket for our final meal. We don't like paying the huge prices in restaurants, and frankly, by the end of the day we are just happy to put our feet up, and make our own food.

Dinner our first night...wonderful North Atlantic Salmon, with Brittany potatoes, beans and tomatos...divine...and of course a slice of Normandy Butter! Yum!
Fini!
