St Vincent l'Oust, lL'ile aux Pies Adventure

As we were dragging our feet a bit this morning, had laundry to do and didn't want to venture too far...one might say we were tired!. We took the back roads per usual, and this is what we found:) The famer and his wife were happy to converse in Frenglish (mine) and told us that this breed of cow is Normand, from Normany, of course, and they sell their milk for cheese, to a factory not far away.  Aren't they pretty!

They are good milkers, apparently, and they already knew that NZ milks mostly Fresians and Jerseys! How interesting!

They also told us that the lady in the yellow sports car is English and lives not far away...how funny:) Lots of English living in these parts, we have found.

I suppose you can imagine how excited we were to go over the bridge in the background and to find water, let alone the boats zooming up the river. These are rental boats returning to their beginnings, we think. Le Boat...for those who are interested.
It always pays to look before you step somewhere...I found this funghi that had fallen off a tree, lying in the lush grass. How pretty!

After driving in and our and over and up for a good hour, we came, finally, to St Vincent d'oust. Being lunch time we thought to stop at Le Rosbif (Roast beef), for a bite. Happened that the owners are British, and we had a jolly good chat with Jane, the grand dame of the establishment, who, with the help of her four boys, runs the pub and bistrot. I had a burger and frites (unusual for me) and Waz had a steak and kidney pie and frites...he wasn't disappointed, but it wasn't made on the premises!:(
Lovely folks, with their whole family eating lunch outside in the sun. The wind was still cool, but we were happy to put the brolly up. We hadn't intended to do so, but Jane advised us to go and take a look at L'isle aux pies. We had seen the sign on the main road, and not thought it would be of interest, not knowing what it was. We did know it said something about outdoor pursuits, though.
Imagine our surprise when we went down hill...yes, we parked at the top and walked all the way down...such a pretty walk too....to this! The Oust River, with cliffs opposite where people climb for fun!
There were a few barges tied up to the docks, and a more tranquil place you couldn't find. There was also a really nice café and restaurant down there.

It is literally the confluence of three rivers...
We spied these brave souls across the river.

after walking along the tow path for about a mile, we turned back and 'went bush' through the forest, to get back to the car and parking lot. We didn't find the Lock we went seeking, but that didn't matter...time was flying and we had other things to do.

We drove home over the Oust River canal...Makes one want to get a barge and do the waterways of France, doesn't it?

...and seeing that we were on one of those skinny back roads that we favor so much, we came across this Gate House...in need of some work too...but that is beside the point rather.

More to the point was that it lead to this Chateau...we were rather frustrated that the gate was locked and it was Propriete prive!...but we could feel it beckoning to us...hmmm....need head read!

We eventually found home, had a cuppa, put the laundry on to dry...again...that dryer needs a two-some, unfortunately...and did the usual dinner thing.
