We have found two leaks, both in the Pilot House door, which Waz has worked VERY hard to stop before this WW hit. We took the inside door mat up and put down a plastic bag and a couple of rags to soak up any possible drips or in the case at the bottom left hand corner, a run, of water.
The rain held off long enough, just past breakfast, for us to go out and tie the front port rope a little tighter...me on the rope side pulling it hard through the cleat, and Waz on the other side of the boat pushing it towards me with his back against the boat and legs pushing against the pole we had been in close contact with previously. Mission accomplished. It does place a HUGE strain on the left front port side rope which is taking the bulk of the strain for the entire boat as we stick out a lot in the mooring and the windage across the front of the boat is huge.
The waves are coming into the marina straight through the entry, which we are opposite, and they are smacking (literally) into the hull broadside. We hate the way the waves then come up under the flat bottom of the duckboard at the back with a loud woof and a whack that jars the whole boat.
It is days like this that we have to be creative in our thinking.
For me, that started breakfast. It can be a boring meal, and I don't like to eat the same thing every day, but I'm also very aware of 'texture' in everything I do and eat.
I had been mulling over what I would do with a half bag of store-bought Hash Brown potatoes, apart from putting them in a frying pan to brown!
I had the idea to bake them in large muffin tins (in this case silicone) and put the eggs on top..One pot cooking, as it were.
In case you are interested...here is the recipe:
Baked Hash Omelet
In a mixing bowl place enough hashed potatoes (bought kind) to 1/3 fill large muffin 'holes'. With a few drops of oil, salt and pepper, mix them lightly and divide between the 'holes'.
Preheat oven to 425F (225C) and place muffin tray containing the hash in the oven. Bake until the bottoms are brown (tops will be also).
in the meantime...
Crack two eggs per person into a mixing bowl along with 1/2 cup of 1/2 and 1/2 (or cream), salt and pepper and any other seasoning you desire e.g. chopped chives, parsley, finely chopped and fried bacon etc.
When the potatoes are sufficiently browned (mid) remove from the oven and divide the egg mix equally between the potato pans. Replace into the oven to bake until the eggs bounce back when depressed.
Serve with oven baked vine-ripened tomatoes, crisp bacon or other breakfast goodies as desired. Make it colorful!
They were yummy! The texture was a little weird for me, but the taste was good.
They don't look very big, but two was plenty of food for one person.
I just took a few photos to show you what the day looks like..
Since I took them the sky has gone completely dark grey and the wind has come up again. Bah! I don't like to leave the boat in weather like this because of the opportunity to slip on the slippery fixed dock, which isn't in good repair.
Waz has been busy downloading all the blog files into a word document so that we can publish a series of books on our adventures. I had expressed the doubt that we would rush to a computer every time we wanted to see something from the blog, and so the idea of putting it all into book form has taken place. This book would have many more photos than are in the blog because otherwise the photos also stay on the computer never to be looked at again.
We have so many photos that truly tell the story of our travels, so we need to include them so that we can look back with real recognition and show folks who are interested, where we have been.
That it might turn into a 20 volume set is quite possible:) But then, I had friends on Maui who had book shelves full of their photo albums and they were all cataloged so that they were accessible. A great idea! And this was all pre-computer, pretty much.
Now, that gets me thinking about all the photos I have, not just in albums, but also loose in boxes, in our storage locker in NZ. I can see an opportunity to digitize them and put them all into book form. Something nice about having a book to look through. Must be an age related thing???
It looks as if we are going to be boat-bound today, so I will begin the book project.
I will amend this post later as things develop.
