A Weekend in Columbus, Ms.

Apart from beginning to clean the boat...which got interrupted by Rich and Pam's visit...happily:)..on Saturday, not much work got done on the boat this weekend. At least half of the boat got cleaned:) It was a great way to be interrupted...any good excuse, one could say!

For some reason I had the need to bake/make/cook, on Sunday, and I did so most of the day. Weird, I know!

With a good few days out on the hook, ahead of us, I needed to cook up the smoked bacon bit I had waiting for such a time, in the fridge, along with the left overs of the celery, one last onion (so we were a bit low on food!!), and a few cans of beans, tomatoes etc, etc. So, while that was cooking on my trusty little induction cooktop, I was looking through my Southern Living magazine and found a recipe for Blueberry Yoghurt Coffee Cake, and decided I had the ingredients for that...or those, as it turned out to be....so I prepared, and finally decided to put the mix into muffin pans which are easier to store in the freezer...and....while those were cooking, I had Waz get the poor neglected Bread Maker out, and as we had previously discussed, I made  cinnamon pecan buns.
WOW! All that sugar, you might say. Well, news for you...The coffee cake had very little sugar..one good reason for making them:) and neither did the buns...other than the white flour..hmmm. Anyway. it's not like we are going to eat them all at once. I did give a couple of buns to Pam and Rich for their departure breakfast...so that is two less we have to ear. Justifications going on here, lol.

The soup was yummy, and we had it for various meals for several days.

The buns went into the freezer for future breakfasts....

...likewise the muffins.

As usual, we needed food for the rest of the journey, and borrowed the courtesy car. Warren also needed something from the autoparts store. Being a Sunday, stores opened later...all except the supermarkets, of course. We found a Krogers down the road past the Walmart, which we had intended to go to, but in the process of looking for the auto parts, we went past. A lovely selection of everything at the Krogers, but we also went back to the Walmart for some less expensive fruit. We found it! and joy....we found a Starbucks:) Of course we visited and enjoyed our Lattes.

Having done most of the food shopping at Krogers, we went into the Historic district of Columbus and were pleasantly surprised to find the former birthplace of Tennessee Williams.:)

I loved this arrangement at Krogers...so of course I had to show you...just an idea! just sayin'.

...and yes, we bought a pineapple for 99c!

The cranberries with the Pomegranate in the vase are fabulous, aren't they?

The heart of the Historic District in Columbus. These buildings have all be beautifully restored.

Halloween decorations were everywhere in town...these ones were very tasteful!. Sorry about the dark spot in the photo...my camera has gremlins!

Loved this sign, and the ornate holder.
It was a unique home, at one time, but now a furniture store. I loved the little rotunda on the right.

...and the paint job on this home, the former childhood home of Tennessee Williams.

Most of the corners at the lights had decorations for Halloween.
Lovely plaster decorations on historic buildings.

I fell in love with the suits in this Men's Wear store.
LOVE this combo! what do you think??:)

This Halloween decoration was very tasteful!

We arrived back at the boat to find we are  sitting out there alone again. All our neighbors had left, and we were waiting for the next lot of boats to arrive. It was pretty warm out there in the sunshine, but there was a cold wind blowing, all the same.  We put away the groceries and got some food for lunch. Nobody turned up to take the courtesy car, early afternoon, so we commandeered it for another couple of hours to go back to the Historic District and go for a good long walk.

We parked the car in more of less the same place we had previously...thinking we would try out the coffee shop across the road, once we had our exercise. Of course this exercise involved our shutter fingers too! per usual.
One of the streets was closed off for a charity affair. We walked down the road, helped the volunteers close off the end of another street, and kept walking and photographing. It was pretty hot in town, away from the water.
These brick walls have lots of stories to tell
There were so many lovely old churches within a two block radius of the center of town...oops, there's that pesky spot again..dang!
This original town horse-drawn fire wagon is encased in glass. What a beauty!
This church is stunning. Not only the size, but the details as well. Too bad we couldn't get inside to take photos of the stained glass windows...they were magnificent! Being Sunday, we didn't think it would be proper to do that!

This is another historic home, opposite the above church. Per usual, most of the historic homes are on Main Street. We find there is a Main Street, literally, in every town we visit, and on that street are the large and lovely homes of the town beginnings.
 We are suckers for gingerbread!

It's in the details!

Lovely details..I have a gazillion of them in photographs. I cant show them all here...but I can look at them any time.

Well, the time was arriving for us to get back to the main drag and take the car back. Someone had booked her for 5pm. At 4pm, we went back to Michaels craft store, via the Starbucks...ok..we had to have another Latte!:)

We were hoping to find fabric at Michaels, but they don't have it...everything else, but no fabric! I got waylaid at the books...and had to photograph these two:) I would love to knit some Meerkats..wouldn't you? :)

 AND some reindeer!!lol. What fun.
Unfortunately, I don't have room on the boat for any more hobbies, and I don't need any further distractions from writing the four volumes of the book of our adventures on The Loop.
Speaking of which...no, more on that another time.

We finished the day greeting the other Loopers, as they came in and helping them to tie up. Our kiwi friend Gerald arrived single handed, his wife having deserted the ship for something in Florida. Sheree is due to join the boat again tomorrow.
Once that sun goes down, it gets cold, and we are due for another cold snap, overnight. We are expecting fog in the morning. It is up and at it early, again.
