Meals between friends

It is always such a pleasure to find people of like-kind who are happy with their life choices, live the dream and take care of others with pleasure.
We have found those people here in Seabrook, Texas. They may not be native to the area, but they have embraced the lifestyle, work hard at their jobs and value their freedom, friends and the luxury of living on the water.
Dean and Katie are two of these people, and we are sorry to say Au Revoir to them. We enjoyed our breakfast together and catching up. We look forward to getting together with them somewhere else on our travels...possibly Florida!
We are going to enjoy a dinner with Veronica and Roy tonight, as this is also perhaps a last meal with them for some time. They have a 5 yr plan, and it doesnt involve moving their boat at this stage, so they are literally and figuratively 'tied' to the dock. We sincerely hope we come across them again, either because we return to Seabrook, or they decided to join us on a leg or two of our adventure. We hope both!
Our plans are to move out of the marina on monday morning. Warren has cleaned the raw water strainers this afternoon, and found baby mussels:) they are better off NOT in our strainers.
Leaving has been a series of lasts. Last at Seabrook Marina, that is.
We did the last clothes wash this morning, and tomorrow (sunday) will do the last sheets and towels wash here. Monday morning I will do the last fresh produce shop and take the car back to Enterprise car rentals. Warren is going to wash the boat down while I am out. We need to get all the red dirt off her. Across the highway, they are reclaiming land on the waterfront, and of course the wind blows all that disturbed dirt our way. It is a never ending battle.
So, with the last meals with friends, we complete the packing up and shipping out.
This is bittersweet, as you might imagine. The safety of this marina has been great, but it is surely time to take the next step. the unknown lies before us and you will read all the adventures on the way when we have the opportunity to document them.
We will be without e-mail sometimes, but we dont worry about that. Part of the pleasure of cruising is not being in contact with everyone. One of the reasons why we plan to anchor out as much as possible. We do not fancy tying up with all the other boats in a marina every night, but will need to do that when we want fresh produce and other essentials. We have enough food in our pantry to last us a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time:)

As we were coming over the Kemah bridge this morning, after a trip to Walmart to get a new toilet brush..(blush)...we notices LOTS of little yachts out there on the Bay, just off Kemah point.

Waz tells me these are 'Optimists', and they are from the Seabrook Sailing Club. Great to see so many youngsters learning and enjoying the water.
There is a very active sailing club here at the Marina, and they go out every Wednesday afternoon for races.
The sticks in the water are left over debris from Hurricane Ike...like so much of this kind of thing in the water along the coast.

I have to say I was disgusted with the debris on the shelly beach where I was standing to take the photo. Trash EVERYWHERE and no recepticle in sight.

Plastic bottles all over the place. Not just on the beach, but alongside the road and where people park to go fishing along the shoreline...

Looking back through my photos, I can see I forgot to tell you about our visit to EPO. This is an electronics and computer store which I try to avoid going into. You will see why in a moment...Too many toys!:)
The old car is gorgeous, as is the old pinball machine. The RC 'toys' are mostly of the hovering kind which is why I get excited.

Hovering toys:)

This employee thought I should invest in this Bee umbrella:) notice he wasnt keen on being identified, even though I told him I would make him famous:)

Loved this Star Wars model...complete with interiors!woohoo:)

Isnt she gorgeous? Someone did a fab restoration job on her.
Well folks...it is time for me to get my glad rags on and pretty myself up for a dinner out with Veronica and Roy.  I call her Queen V:)..yes, alright..and Ronnie!
Waz is going to have a quick 'shower' on the Duck board. I cant let him go out smelling like engine room. Although..now, there is an idea! Do you think the fellas would buy a 'perfume' called 'Engine Room'?? Possible?? yes? no? hmmmmmm....That one I will have to pass by Queen V, tonight. She is the website queen and looking for 'unique' gifts for her latest!
talk to you later!! ciao
