If I Was A Walrus...

..I would have said "The time has come!"...and indeed the time HAS come....

I have been procrastinating over calling the Hand specialist in Jacksonville. I need Carpel Tunnel Surgery on my right hand, as I might just have mentioned previously. The thought of MORE surgery on that wrist, no matter how non-invasive, has been making me a little queasy, to be perfectly honest.

So, today I made THE CALL! I have an appointment on Monday to see the specialist. Of course I put my X-rays somewhere safe, and just as I have all my life, that safe place is not in my memory bank, and just when I need it...it is NOT THERE! ACK! lol. Of course I will find it when I get home from said appointment, wont I !
However, you cannot say that Im not organized! I have a copy of it on my computer...tada!

Well, I have no idea what this x-ray will tell the specialist (It isn't my specialty, obviously!), but this is all I have.

So....and then Waz made THE call to his specialist. In light of his recent tour-de-hospital, he has been advised to have a Colonoscopy...and very wisely too, I would add. Our insurance company in the USA considers it a standard procedure to cover for the over 55 male. Hooray!

So, we are good to go, as they say. He also recently bit down on an almond and a piece of one of his molars broke off! Gah!!!! Because this is not an emergency, such as tripping over the front concrete steps and breaking all your front teeth as a result, we cannot get the necessary Crown paid for by insurance...Hello $1500..US! Ouch!

Did I say that getting older isn't much fun??

Anyway, he currently has a temporary crown and will have the permanent one in two weeks. I still think that price is a NZ price (exorbitant, in other words).

SOooo...what have we been doing??

We made a wee trip across the causeway to Jekyll Island the other day. St Simon's Island was wayyy more interesting, but the real estate prices are HUGE! Not sure why. The whole Island felt a bit like it needed dusting.

Jekyll Island is historically the playground of the rich and famous. The Rockefellers and Carnegies had summer homes there. The CLUB is very fun and we enjoyed a coffee on the balcony before walking around the grounds and looking at the other Victorians.

The huge old trees are all hung with Spanish Moss, of course, but they are glorious.

The Club Hotel as we were driving to the parking lot.

Look at that Basket Weave!

The Club Hotel.
 Is that idyllic, or what?

There is a pub down where those chairs are.

it's all in the details!
The Club Hotel Dining room ready for lunch. We didn't eat there, but the menu wasn't prohibitive, and they DO English Teas at this hotel!! WE might have to do that some time!

I don't normally take photos in the ladies room, but this was a special occasion! lol

Jekyll Island is just 9 miles from Brunswick. These are known as  The Golden Isles.
 I LOVE Begonias!
These were at the bottom of a stairwell at the Club Hotel.

Lovely to see that they are restoring these historic buildings!

We didn't go inside the Turtle Center...they wanted money and we didn't have any, so next time!

I just LOVE the centers of these Sago Palms.

The architecture is SO climate appropriate!

Don't you love the foliage on the chimney ?

Condos!

An Electric vehicle of the Victorian kind!

Is this sublime?:)

Flounder, anyone?

We went past this jetty last year and I didn't put the two together....Don't you love that the fisherfolk get shade!

Beach goers on the island.

So, we drove around the island and went home!

Simple as that:)

So, what have we been doing otherwise?

Well, this morning we went to Daddy Cate's Café for breakfast. They really do it well! We have a standard order, it seems. A bacon/egg/cheese croissantwich, and a Flat white for him and a Latte for me! Perfect.

After breakfast we went to the Library and found out what we needed, to get a card, came back to the boat for lunch...coz by the time we looked around the library and spent some time reading at the tables, it was THAT hour!:) Books have a habit of doing that, right?

So, after lunch we went down to the Marina office for confirmation of our current address so we could go back to the Library and pay our $12.50 for a temporary card...6 months I think!

Yay! I found the Joan Rivers book...new release...and managed to get that and two other recent releases to take out.
Waz found a few books of interest, including  one of the local  (Georgia Pacific) paper company's public records on their processes. They date back to the 1970's, but there was local concern about the pollution in both air and water then. He found a pamphlet on local fish that can and cant be eaten..well, they can, but you should only eat shrimp  at any time, and some varieties once per week, and others onces per month, because of the pollution in the Rivers here. Interesting! We see much pollution everywhere and it is of great concern to us.

We also wanted to know if it was safe to eat the local seafood. Apparently not as much as we thought.

Well, I guess that is it for now. Time for showers and bed...again. The days go fast, don't they?

Farmer's market tomorrow. We don't need any more fresh food, having done our food shopping a few days ago, but apparently Saturday market has other things there too!
Ciao for now.
