The Continuing Adventures of Mon and Waz

The Adventures of Captain Warren and First Mate Monica. Having completed America's Great Loop in 2014, life doesn't slow down for these intrepid travelers. Each year brings new challenges; some good, some bad, but challenges nonetheless! 2017 sees them renting an apartment while 'Untide' is For Sale. Life on terra firma isn't all it is cracked up to be, but more change is in the wind. Read on for the latest!

All finished!

Well, not ALL finished, but certainly the front sun screens...here they are..taken at 8am, this morning. They sure reflect with a vengeance...not ANY heat coming into the boat from the windshield on the inside now..how good is that?:) We are VERY happy campers, and I am sure the aircon will work better as a result (not directly connected, but energy-wise they are).

What a pity they arent solar cells which might help the boat grid a little more!

This is the 50AMP cord that hooks us up to shore power so that we arent running the generator to power the boat. Something we will do when not hooked up at a marina. This power cost money, of course!

these  adaptor cables below were on the boat already..Waz just got them out to clean them.

Waz sitting on the cockpit deck seat in the humidity..about 90%.

This is the other end of the power cable on the dock. Obviously it is metered!

We also have some beginnings this week.
I finally started the re-upholstery of the two chairs in the salon.  After this I have to put the sewing machine away and concentrate on learning more boating skills!!!

First up was unpicking the old fabric and taking the old staples out of the bottom of the seat. I decided to start with the seats as they presented the least challenge. I thought that if I could get them correct, then the rest would be a cinch.
Here is the chair before pulling it apart...above.

The seat is now in it's underwear.

This is the fabric all ready to pull apart and use as a template for the new one.

This is the base that the seat goes onto...and the storage underneath:)

...and...we have the first finished seat!! tada!
I need to tackle the next seat and then the top, I think, which is far more complex.
I have procrastinated on doing these chairs, but the time of reckoning is here.

On Monday, we had cause to go to Fry's Electronics Warehouse again. Of course it is right next door to Academy, the outdoor and sports superstore. Not much you cant find there...and just to illustrate this point, I have a few photos of some 'interesting' merchandise.:)

I love these new Blade Runner shoes. The plastic soles are VERY tough and rigid, but I can imagine what they are like to run in!
Look at the price!

This is our new exercise machine...$49!!
My mother in NZ has a simpler variety of this machine which is used for legs as well as arms, and it has great aided her mobility, at 85...we arent quite 'there' yet, but perhaps it will keep us somewhat fit in our middle age?

Who woulda thunk that you could have so much fun with Bar-b-q lighters???

The pack of four lifejackets, (above) was only $25 for the pack. There is no excuse for people not to wear their lifejackets....we see too many not doing so and mostly at their peril...here and in NZ.

I love Fry's...the whole place is kitted out like an international space center. I am not allowed to take photos inside, unfortunately, but I can outside:)

Tuesday...we seemed to do nothing much. I guess we have to have our off days sometimes. We work pretty hard most of the time without thinking of taking a break, such is the need to keep working away at the little jobs we have left. We dont think of weekends as time out.
Well, it is another bed time for us. Waz has had his shower already (on the duckboard) and that is where I am headed. It was so nice to enjoy a cooler day today after torrential rain, it barely got to 85F. The humidity level was bearable and the heat was low enough so that we didnt put the aircon on in the car when we went out.
We had a couple of letters to post...My ex-Mother-in-law died yesterday (19th August), so we had to send our condolences to family on Maui.  It is a tough time for my middle son who lives on the Island. He was at her bedside when she passed away, so he was there to say goodbye. She was a wonderful Grandma and a generous and special Mom-in -law to me. RIP Katherine.
And so another era ends.
Good night and sweet dreams:)
