The rest of Wednesday(now thursday am.)

Warren had been busy most of the day working on the for'd toilet. Put some additional bits in to stop the liquid syphoning out of the loo when it goes to the holding tank. A vented loop. Then...it was leaking in the joint between the base and the loo bowl...something hadnt found previously because there was never any water in the bowl for us to find it. Only when there was some water around, did this come to light.
The base is so damaged from previous repairs (by who knows who) it isnt worth saving. So...4pm, he makes a trip to Blackburn Marine to purchase a new toilet...executive decisions and all that...and returns. There was nothing on the box other than a SKU # to indicate what the contents might be. He said the woman who served him looked on the computer, said yes, they have a 'household sized toilet. Got the box down, paid the money, got it back, unpacking and ...WOA! NOT the right one! Doesnt that P you off?
So, take smaller toilet back (this one was a compact loo) and find that after opening all the boxes at the store that SOMEONE must have wanted a compact loo and taken it back to their boat to find that they have a Household loo.
Anyway...we are off to West Marine this morning to buy the right toilet and get some fibreglass cloth to repair the dinghy seat which broke when my big Bum bounced too hard on it when Waz was hooning through the waves on tuesday night! lots of blame being apportioned here:)

Getting back to yesterday...

As I said, Waz had his nose in the for'd loo for a good part of the day while I sewed on the back deck. determined to finish the curtain that keeps the sun off the deck in the afternoon, and because our NZ flag doesnt cut it anymore. Finished the curtain and hung it!. Flag now on the INSIDE!:) At least we will never forget where we come from,:)
We finished it this morning by putting the grommets on the bottom and attaching the curtain to handrails with toggles.
We now have all three curtains up shading and hopefully keeping the worst of the rain off the cockpit deck.

You can see how the curtains shade the cockpit deck. Without them it gets VERY hot out there. So hot that you cannot stand on the wooden deck without shoes on.

Dont you like the clothes pins?:)

So, following all that drama, we decided at around 5.30pm to go for our first swim in the pool here at the marina. We drove over there because even though it was only 1/4 mile (or less) to walk, it was still 95F. A few people already there enjoying the shady trees and the cool of being right on the Clear Creek where it enters Clear Lake. Did some underwater walking (Waz did, anyway) and swam for about 15 mins(I did)..treading water etc...not exactly refreshing when the water is 80-something degrees, but the breeze soon cools you down.
We met another couple...perhaps in their early 70's...hard to tell ...who are Scottish. They have spent the past 18 yrs living on the 46ft yacht that they built themselves.
We learned much from them over the course of the next two hours. Duncan and Dorothy were excellent pool companions and we hope to see them again today when we go for another swim.

They had spent the last Hurrican season in Guatemala, where there were about 60 yachts and 10 motor yachts (Launches) seeing out the few months of the Season. They loved it!
They are here because they have family in northern Houston which they take care of over the summer school holidays. Because they have a 7ft draft (they have a keel, being a yacht) there are places they cant go that a motor yacht CAN go...we only have a 4ft 6" draft which is deep by some standards. Many MY only have a 3ft draft!.

Waz is a bit pooped today...well, he deserves a day off after being in a small hot place...make that small hot places for the last so many days and weeks.
Installing all the wiring, electronics etc in almost unimaginable places has been a hot and sweaty business. No aircon on the flydeck means he comes inside dripping. Today might be the perfect day for a tiki tour somewhere different:)
Not sure we will get to West Marine for the new toilet...Blackburns called just now and said the toilet we want will be 3 to 4 days, if we want to wait...but today is thursday, so that means after the weekend. Hmmm..we will see. He wont be putting it in today, so perhaps we can wait.
Time to go and do something else for a change:) talk to you later.
Might call my sister for her birthday and talk to the rellies who are visiting here right now:)
