cATS AND dOGS

Yep! It is raining cats and dogs and a few rats too, me thinx. We were warned that there was an 80% chance of thunderstorms, and we didnt take it that seriously...well, the skies were blue and a few clouds, but nothing new, right?
After a morning spent outside cleaning stainless things in overcast conditions...it was actually pleasant. I needed to get physical and stretch my body a bit after being cramped up on the salon coffee table, sewing curtains. It is always good to get out and make a difference to something, and I was channeling my mother while shining. You can see the shine on the davit!!
that, ladies and gentlemen, is a reflection!!

Remember I told you about the temporary covers on the windshield? Looks a bit silly, but you would be amazed at how much heat is reflected. the one we had attached on the left side came off in the storm tonight, so Waz was out there in the rain removing the rest of the safety pins:)
Just as well we put all the 'curtains' up on the outside of the cockpit deck before we left this evening!

I ran out of tape for the hanging of the curtains, which necessitated a trip into JoAnn's again. We also had to go via Home depot to get a couple of things. On the way up NASA Rd 1, we came across this accident on the other side of the road...like the nose??:) I would like to hazzard a guess that someone was driving and texting and didnt see that the cars in front had stopped....this was a nose to tail to nose to tail to nose to tail! Squished, they were.
Sorry...not time to capture them very well while driving in traffic.
Here they are loading one of the cars onto a tow truck. Lots of emergency personnel hanging around.

We got home around 4pm, in time to finish and hang one of the dinette curtains and almost finish the other. we had until 5pm, when it was arranged that we would go out for a wine with Veronica (Namibia) and the Marina Manager Linda and her hubby. Veronica arrived almost on the dot...walking in the now 101F temps...even though she had a wide brimmed sunhat on, she was exhausted by the time she got inside in the airconditioning.
The three of us went to Clear Creek Winery in Kemah, just over the bridge. We were to meet Linda et al there. A call from Linda said her husband was stuck in traffic on the way home frm Houston, and they would have to make it another time. We were supposed to be celebrating linda's birthday (last friday).
Well, never one to let the grass grow under our feet, we decided to celebrate her birthday wihtout her.
We ordered a cheese platter (it's what you do, with wine)...which was so good it was almost gonesville before I got the camera out. Waz and ronnie drank wine while I enjoyed a blackberry flavored iced tea.

Some kind stranger took this photo for us:)

and Dee, the manager took this one. We all look a bit sozzled! not so...well, not for me, but maybe for the other two:)

anyhooo...we were all very relaxed and enjoyed the couple of hours there. Hungry, we set out for Opus, a restaurant just half a mile away. By this time we had been warned that the wind was gusting and the rain threatening. We hadnt brought an umbrella with us...darn it!
We made it into Opus just as the rain started....bit drops.
The restaurant is one of Veronica's favorites, and she got a hug at the front door...obviously comes here often. I decided I needed a hug too...(he was kind of cute:) ) ...and got a hug AND a kiss from the doorman:)
Waz didnt want one!

One of the specials was this soft shelled crab. It is tossed in corn meal and broiled. Fantastic...sorry, I was hungry and forgot to take photo when the plate was full!:( this is the second crab.

Waz had one of the other specials which was the Texas sized pork chop on two ribs, cooked medium rare. He said it was tasty, but not enough other stuff (veg, he meant) on the plate.

Veronica ordered two entres...the coquille St Jacques, below, and the seafood salad with pico de gallo ( peeko de Guy o ) like a chopped salsa without being sloppy)
Her cocquilles were non-traditional with a mushroom cream sauce, shrimp and scallops...with some kind of mashed potatoes on the side...hmmmm...chef was a bit too creative with this. the sauce was nice, but there is something comforting about the traditional dish served in a scallop shell.

Earlier in the day Waz called me out to look at this strange fish, which he had noticed some time ago...as in, days. It is obviously a tropical fish (snout on the right) and it looks a bit sick...anything would be sick living in the mucky water that surrounds the boats.

We dont get more than a one foot tide, so the marina never gets cleaned out by the tide action. He picked up about 7 water bottles and other debris in the water alongside the boat this morning. Yuk!

We wont be showering on the duckboard tonight, Im afraid...too much precipitation...so we will have to take one in the inside shower. Bummer!
It is about 80F right now, and humid. The aircon is on in the bedroom, and bed beckons yet again.

Tomorrow is Thursday. We have been here 8 weeks already! did I tell you that?
We have made tentative plans to leave at the end of the month. Veronica is sore at us for leaving. So few liveaboards here in the marina and she has so few people to socialize with while Roy is out of the country most of the month. He should be back stateside in 23 days, and then one more trip away before coming back to the Bay area for his job. We have just made all these new friends, and then it is sad to leave them. Such is the transient nature of what we are doing. Still, it means we will have friends all over the place, and many more to make on the loop.

We may stay until roy gets back and then a few days enjoying his and their company. Katie and Dean are here also and they are also hard to leave:(
We have to go some time!!!:)
Time for bed...
