Sunday 21 July 2013

End of another weekend

It is Sunday night and I have come out of the shower into the aircon to cool down. I have to say, it is nice to now have some hot water added to the shower mix. Having showered without for a month, I welcome the added heat.
Today dawned overcast again and temps got into the mid 80's which we are told is unusual for July. The humidity, however, left a lot to be desired.
When we finally surfaced this morning around 9.30am, we came out to find it had rained hard in the night. Bummer that we had left some lockers open, and the water had found it's way into them and the contents. Lots of lessons being learned here:)
We have to take a day off occassionally, and it is sometimes difficult to do so, knowing you have so many things to do and want to make use of the cooler days. We decided to leave the boat after lunch, which ended up being around 2.30pm.
Because we had a late breakfast (french toast and bananas) we had a light lunch of two corncobs and some barb-b-q corn chips with Tsaziki dip...very healthy!!:) Waz had been down in the Lazarette cleaning things out, throwing and sorting. Trying to find things, deciding what is in need of a clean (spare parts, tools etc) and what is out of date, needs a wash/oil etc.
He has made new lockers out of places that were once occupied by appliances, so we have added quite a lot of storage to the boat. Buying plastic containers has helped keep the dirt off things and keep them somewhere you can find them, also.

We didnt want to stray far from home, today, and had driven past the Historic Village of League city a few times now, so decided a Sunday was a good day to visit that part of the area, only 10 mins from the boat.
Glorious Live Oaks line the Main Street and provide much needed shade along side streets. most homes have huge magnolias and live oaks shading them, which is necessary, given the heat.
One of the lovely old homes in the area

the same old house, showing the huge Live Oaks.

I forgot to mention that we had to turn in our rental car on saturday...the term of that agreement had expired, and we got an almost new Chevy Impala for the next term...bigger car and more efficient aircon...all that matters:)

I'm off to bed, but will post some more tomorrow...
