Rainy day on the coast and Costco trip

Looking out the window to see rain was delightful this morning. It has been brewing for a couple of days, with thunderheads hovering, but never producing the wet stuff. It drizzled on and off most of the day until later afternoon. It cooled down enough that we were able to turn the aircon off and open all the windows and doors. it was 86F on the dial in the car at around 4.30pm, which is about the time we seem to register the day's hotest temps.

I promised some photos of the drive to Costco, and some of what was there.
This is an Oil Refinery...approaching the Sam Houston Tollway. If I was going to commute everyday, I would use the tollways.

The largest American flags are found at the Car dealerships!
Downtown Houston ahead...Bear in mind this is 10am on a sunday morning. the traffic going home was twice this.
The highways are endless...and this is the I45 which goes from Galveston in the south to Dallas in the north. You can travel the entire USA on highways like these.

This cop car pulled over a taxi which looked like the cab we took from the airport to Clear Lake the night we arrived...

These sights are typical of what is alongside the Highway. Mostly industrial, strip malls etc. Nothing too pleasant, frankly, but the signs of a big city, to be realistic.

This is the Costco in the middle of the downtown Houston area known as Galleria. Took us about an hour to get there via a circuitous route, and 45 mins to get back using the 610 ringroad, and then HWy I45 until the NASA Parkway and NASA Rd 1, back to the marina. Easy!

For the Kiwis who know Wet and Forget, and buy it at NZ$100 for two...well, here is the Costco price!!We were surprised (but not) to see this in the store.

Dont you love the prices for these HDTVs!
This one is about 80"

And a perfect sunset to top off the day. I cant do anything about the powerlines, sorry! There are power lines everywhere here, and I am taking this photo standing on the fly deck upstairs.

Time for bed...and we are listening to Lionel Richie....Have to love Walmart's $5 CD's!!
Night night...
