As indicated in the last post, the upstairs fridge was cleaned out ready to turn on. Duly turned on, we waited a couple of hours to see how cold it would get. Given the fact that it was 97F when we turned it on, we thought to wait for the morning to see how it fared overnight. it didnt! Soooooooo...Thinking outside the proverbial box as to how to afford another fridge....
Normally we would purchase another Marine quality fridge to replace this one. However...as with everything Marine, that is an expensive option of the $700+ variety. We are about the get the fly bridge enclosed in Eisenglas (special plastic clear sides with zippers for 'windows') so the fridge we put up there will no longer be open to the elements. We reason that we can purchase a small (2.4-2.5cu ft) domestic 'normal' fridge for around $100, and it will no doubt last us easily 5 yrs. No contest, baby!:)
Waz has spent some time today looking for such an item, as I dont want it to be just a drinks fridge. It will have to contain the overspill from the Galley fridge..e.g. fresh fruit and veg, and the odd bottle of wine andwater. He found a couple we will go and investigate tomorrow at the Baybrook Mall...Lowes have them in stock!!
We were discussing how to first remove the old fridge and then install the new one. Dont get smart on me now...this thing is on the flybridge and the only way to get it down is a) disguise it as an 'anchor' and throw it overboard, b) disguise it as two anchors and throw it...you get the idea!
We need to go and measure the hatch that goes down to the cockpit, to see if we can slide it down those stairs...we will have to go dumpster diving to find the appropriate sized cardboard to use as a slide though.
The other idea...well, there arent too many other ideas, frankly. As for getting the new one up...well, I have the movie camera going, I will be sure to post the movie of the whole thing:)

And the saga of the Hot water tank continues...
Oh, didnt I tell you about the hot water tank??
The hot water tank needs one new element. Since the tank was built in Taiwan, the elements are not readily available 'off the shelf' as it were. Being a creative person, Waz bought an element that could be modified to fit...all he had to do was remove the old one, take it off the faceplate, drill a hole in the middle to fit the new element...wait!!!! no equipment to drill!!!! Minor in the scheme of things, he says:) The other point is that elements are dirt cheap in the USA...less than $10. anyway....he has now found an element on the internet that will fit the original face plate. It is slightly less capacity, but not to worry.
We havnt exactly needed hot water for anything, in the meantime. I shower in the 'warm' water that comes straight out of the boat tank. He goes up to the Marina shower, just up the dock.
So...we wait for this part to arrive in a couple of days.
We also wait for the Dinghy boat motor to be returned to us, the registration numbers to arrive (mail order self stickums)(for the dinghy), my new computer...yes, still!!!! and a few other items.
In the mail today we received the various aerials. Much excitement:). They will be installed in the next couple of days too.
Now, Y'all know that thursday is July 4th. US Independence Day.I had a lovely time in the Randalls supermarket taking photos for y'all, today. This cake in particular got my attention..well, it would, wouldnt it? The blue frosting didn't exactly look edible..more like plastic. the cupcakes were cute!
Lots of hamburger fixin's, mayo, ketchup, pickles, plastic and paper plates etc..all with and without Red White and Blue ...
I drew a little attention with my camera, from both the serving staff and the other supermarket shoppers....dont people normally take photos in a supermarket?? I did it all for you:)
I just had to take a photo of the eggs I was talking about the other day on Facebook..the price of them, that is...
That's $1.89 for one dozen Jumbo...and yes, they are VERy large eggs, and $1.59 for Large eggs. These are standard battery hen eggs...white shell only and the yolks are pale yellow...as are most American eggs.
Here are some other photos of the inside of the supermarket...
These are some of my favorite cookies!! The best way to diet is to take a photo of them. We arent buying cookies!
This corn is delicious...so sweet. We ate some for dinner and I blanched the rest and put them in the freezer.
This is taken from the bread and 'home baked' cookies and Artisan breads section. Delic on the far left.
There is a Starbucks right inside the Randalls supermarket!!VERY convenient.
Well, it is time for me to go and read a book. I did say I was going to read more this year, so I had better stick to my word. Warren has gone for his shower coz he was falling asleep next to me.
Time to turn on the aircon in the bedroom. We will sleep like logs tonight. Lots of activity, a good evening walk and a book to finish the day.
Good night.
