Friday 18th October

It was a day much like any other...
Well, I have always wanted to write that.:) it wasnt like ANY other, in actual fact.

For starters, we picked up a car today around noon..yaya! amazing how good it is to get behind the wheel and be in control of our own destinies.
It is intereting to note how many people told us where to go and where NOT to go. This is a city divided ...in so many ways.
First though, I have to clear something up...it is the issue of the Dolphins I mentioned in the New Orlean or bust blog.

We have since found out that they are not DOLPHINS per say, but the french Dauphin (means dolphin) but here in Louisiana, who knows what the intention is..whether english or french??? So, just wanted to clear that one up..they are the same thing..big round metal things we can tie up to if necessary.

So...divided city.

We had two appointments today. One was a hair cut appointment at 1pm, and the other Dr appointment at 2.45, not far away from the first...by design. We didnt know how long it would take to get from one to the other.

The hairdresser's (Kenneths) was in The Garden District which is just gorgeous. You could die from adjective overuse in this place:)Someonehad the foresight to plant Live Oaks along the streets for shade. They are now humoungus and glorious all in one.
We had to get out and walk along the road in order to take photos of the many Victorian homes along this main drag.Look at the gorgeous trees and how lush the plantings are...the Garden District indeed!

And the homes...Made me wish I had the time to renovate one or two:)..ok..another time!

Yes it is Halloween at the end of the month...loved this!

It's the details that make my mouth water!

Isnt she stunning? and how lovely that someone has the finances to make her back into a stunning beauty:)

This Methodist church is something else...all hand made bricks!

Again...details!

This is the Columns Hotel. She looked so glorious, we had to go and get a coffee...and dessert! Waz had been to get food while I went for a haircut. We were encouraged by a staff member, to park in the parking lot of the Chase Bank..of which we are customers...which we did, thankfully, because the parking meter we were at was not working and we had seen plenty of cars being towed. We didnt want that..had other appointment to get to..
He bought a Subway and found me some sushi, bless him...so we ate in the car before moving on to a parking space in this neighborhood. This is a stunning old home turned Hotel. I attempted to take photos inisde, but they came out so dark...didnt have have time to adjust, sorry.
We often are asked to not take pics, so Im an opportunist:) and ask afterwards, I have learned.
Anyway, we were told we could sit anywhere, so we chose the far left table (in the photo) that looks out onto the lovely trees:) Ordered Coffee and bread pudding bananas foster...not quite knowing what we would get. Everyone swears their bread pudding is the best..and this waitress was no exception. I would have taken a pic of the waitress, but that might have been rude...so will paint the picture with words.
First, says Waz, you need a shoe horn..a large one:)does that tell you anything??
Then..you get a tube of black stretch fabric which might be 8 inches long and12 inches wide...a pair of black stockings, a bra that makes your boobs  sit up and take notice...oh, sorry, everyone else take notice...this being told from a male perspective, you understand!!!,,,then you take a short woman..almost as wide as she is tall...apply stockings...shoehorn the skirt so the hem of the skirt fits into the creaseline of the butt to the leg (top of thigh)...and then you can say what you like about the rest...he says! forgot one thing...back up the bust...make that one pair of HOLY stockings!! at the top of the thigh, that is...where they rub together and cause fire to erupt:)..ok..without being toooooo mean...it was something of an eyesore, to be true. She was a lousy waitress too. She stood over me while I paid, so felt obliged to give her a $2 tip! lol. The coffee was almost cold and the bread pudding had been nuked into submission along with the bananas...so, all up quite forgettable. This was such a shame as the building was stunning. The panelling inside was unbelieveable!
All the while there was a filming session in the drawing room with a New Orleans style band...and we were outside listening to the music...so all in all, a very happy place to sit and enjoy the beauty of the trees and garden and the music, while giving us a giggle:)

..and they even named a dish after me! quelle suprise!

and then a street tram went by. the tram lines go down the middle of the street. There were lots of people on the tram..sorry for photo quality!

  :)

How very French!

..and I love that you find all kinds of surprises in th strangest places:)

So..on to our Doctor's appointment. Well, I should say the Specialist appt.
We entered at the required time of 2.45pm. I filled out endless paperwork..signed away my first born, and the second born and then they took my photo so that I cant skip the country without paying:) and sat and waited...and waited. Busy practice!

I dont remember what time I eventually went into the Drs rooms, but came out at 4.30pm after he took a look at the finger without even touching it...oh, yes he did...to ask if I was very sensitive at the end...huh? betcha I was!!
Then he took the x-rays I had had put onto CD at the hospital across the way (not what they normally do apparently..but I can be persuasive!)...and told me what I already knew...I  had sliced the bone at the tip..and I would be sore for eternity and beyond and would at some stage get full use of it back. Kaching...$150, thanks. And... comeback this time next friday. They will take the stitches out then. Not ready yet! They need to stew for a little longer. In the meantime I am to exercise the middle finger joint so it doesnt seize up! good idea...already doing that!
Sheesh! Am I really that cynical??
So...we got out of there before the afternoon rush hour..which was bad enough once we hit the amazing elevated highway system.
Which brings me to say something about the roads around here.

They are SHITE! Not question, they are THE WORST roads I have ever...that is EVER driven on.
Well, I guess we could forgive the city of NOLA (New Orlean, Louisiana), except that everyone tell us that they were this bad BEFORE Hurricane Katrina.
The concrete roads have all cracked and the asphalt has all melted and buckled in the extreme heat. They are very uncomfortable to ride on, let alone the challenge of driving on some of them.

The highway (I 10) is mostly elevated, thankfully, but gives the feeling of being on a space highway:)...
As we are currently living in the back of beyond...the Marina being very isolated...the roads to get there are not very nice at all. Industry surrounds us.
So..after a cup of tea I got some dinner going. Good thing I had beef short ribs marinating in the fridge:) and some left over rice from the night before...and some ripe on-the-vine tomatoes. Easy dinner..and pretty good too...but we prefer Pork ribs!

Time to do the dishes and finish another book. Reading Robin Cook medical dramas:)
Ciao for now
