NOLA city visit continued...

I took 500+ photos yesterday, and it was just as well we found a New York Camera shop so that I could buy a new battery for the little spy camera (canon 16.1 mgp) as it had just gone out on me. The new battery has double the time, so I am set:)

We were standing on ToulouseStreet waiting for the shuttle to arrive, just after 4pm, and this fellow comes up the road on his scooter. I went to take a photo and then suddenly remembered that he might want money for it...so put the camera down.he noticed and told me it wouldnt cost me money to take the photo, so I guess he is very aware of that going on in the city.
The dog looked happy! There were other very grubby men and women lingering on the streets with small dogs who were soliciting 'donations' for petting the dogs.

The left side wall of this apartment building was on a very decided lean...all the same, they seem to poke living quarters into the smallest and strangest places:)

The streets are European width..meaning not wide! so this Annheuser Busch trucky had to wheel his kegs down the street to where his truck was parked. Fortunately they were empty at this stage!

Royal Street is the Antiques street, and some of the silver was stunning. This is deer antler...as evidenced by the deer on top, with a deer antler handle as well.

...and these procelaine figurines had been silver dipped, by the look of them

On our way back to the shuttle, we had time to stop and watch the antics in the Cathedral square. The Voodoo Bone lady wasnt the only one dispensing hokus pokus...

So was 'Angelic Jeffy'..below. He sat as if in a trance, whether real or imagined...we didnt pay any money to find out what our aura were.

These big fellas made ok music...it was fun to watch their antics, and yes, we gave a 'donation' when the bucket was passed. They were even selling home made Cd's! lol
We didnt wait to find out how much those were. The young guy at back on the mandolin was definitely out of place with this group of seasoned performers. Lots of music on the streets and performers..buskers, I guess, but they are a bit different to what we would normally see in NZ.

While waiting for the shuttle, we struck up a conversation with a young couple with a 3 yr old and 4 month old baby, who are in an RV in the park next door to the marina. The shuttle into town leaves from there, and we had said hello on the inwards journey.
They are German, on 'parental leave' which is 14 months in their case, on 63% of their full time pay.each. They decided to do the trip from New York to Los Angeles in an RV while they can. The hubby speaks almost perfect english with a slight non-descript accent...turns out his father is British. He went to Germany to teach English back in the dark ages (ha!) and met his mother, who was one of the students, and they still live in Germany. So, this young man grew up bi-lingual and he is doing the same or the 3 yr old. The wife speaks english too, but she didnt contribute to the conversation at all. They are taking two months for the trip, so I guess  the baby was barely three months old when they started. Why not? There is never a perfect time to do anything...you just have to have the will to do it, and perhaps the wherewithall too!

On the inward journey we met Jan and Mike, from Newport, CA. They, like us are 'retired' but administer their investments from the comfort of their RV...also parked next door. They are on the move today, towards Destin, FL, and then Ft Lauderdale at the end of the month for the boat show:) We wish we were going too, actually..I dont think we would make it without hussling.

We enjoyed Mike and Jan's company at the Cafe du Monde where we all ate the Beignets. We  went our sep. ways after that, and didnt see them again. Bon Voyage Mike and Jan and good luck with the possible purchase of another boat:)

We got the driver t drop us off at the top of the driveway to the marina...it meant 10 mins less walking and I was pooped, to be perfectly honest. A cup of our good coffee revived us, and before we knew it, it was dinner time again....and then bed time.
The aircon unit in the bedroom needs some attention (there is always something needing attention on a boat) so we have spent the past two nights in relative heat. Last night the wind was very cool, and this came through the open portholes, aided by a fan for curculation, so we actually were pretty cool this morning.
My finger was sore when I woke up..I must have flung it around a bit in the night, but it isnt hurting now...at 10am.
Im off to make a cup of tea and get some work done. I have decided to make a book for this first part of our journey. Stage One! There are so many photos I cannot include on the blog, so I will delight in putting so many more into the book, for our reading in our total dotage:)
The Enterprise car people will be here in an hour, then we will have transport for the weekend. We are looking forward to going to the St Louie Cemetery..I think that is what it is called...VERY old tombs there and very decorative. Stand by for lots of pics from there. Alos the garden district!
First...a haircut, then finger Doc. Will let you know how we go on both counts!
