Tuesday October 1st. Ready to go...

Well, almost...
We were woken around 2am (Waz looked at the clock) with tremendous thunder. It was so loud, it much have been almost overhead. He got up and took a look out, but didnt see the lightening, just heard the thunder again.
Back to sleep...until 8.30am. A great sleep...we woke feeling refreshed after all our activity yesterday...well, it was supposed to be a day of rest, but I guess we dont quite know what that means:)

I put a load of washing on before getting up and dressed. We needed to get cleaned up for our moving day tomorrow. When that load was out, I decided to go ahead and do the towels also..so they went in the washer next. There isnt a public marina washer here, so we have to use our own, which takes about an hour per load.

I have been keeping a store of dirty rags to wash at some stage, so they would be the third load, but only after using yet more to wash the outside of the boat, vacuum inside and wipe all the walls down, clean, tidy etc until just after 1pm, when we stopped for our leftovers lunch.
We had to take a short walk up the road to leBlanc Oil Company to visit Mike Le Blanc. We wanted to make sure we could get fuel tomorrow morning on our way out, and how could we pay...any way we like, he said. And yes, we could come by any time in the morning, just call ahead and let them know to expect us, and they can take our ropes for us when we dock. The dock down there by the road bridge is a bit tricky...it is very low. We will leave our fender boards on and lower them so we dont have any problems. the water is rather turbulent up by the bridge as the stream narrows, so this is also a consideration when we come out, as we are approaching from the port side, where most approach from Starb'd.

We dont HAVE to get fuel tomorrow, but their prices is better here than we have yet experienced...$3.70 per gallon for diesel, and we need about 250 gallons. we will also get about 5 gallons of engine oil. Waz put 2 gals in this morning.
Waz spent the morning cleaning out, checking the engines and doing routine maintenance before going somewhere...standard practice!

We have had some neighbors who arrived on thursday...these folks have docked a 40ft Tiara fisher. She is owned by the boss of an oil company out of Corpus Christi, TX. They took about 14 hrs to get here from Corpus Christi. The boss man is supposed to be staying on the boat during the week, but I guess they found him an Hotel room that suited him more, because we havnt seen them. Saturday, a crowd of them went out in the morning and came back in with fishing rods everywhere...so we assume it was a play day for them all:) The captain of the boat looks young enough to be a school boy, but he is very skillful in his docking and handling. We watch with interest.

It gives us such a good feeling when the boat is cleaned and ready to go.
Everything is put away for the journey tomorrow and we just have to finish up first thing in the morning.
We are off to Morgan City, which we went to last week to take a look at the public dock there.

We had arranged with Katherine and Jim to go shopping tonight after having dinner with them at Shucks. Three of us enjoyed a combo of soft shell crab and one crab cake with remoulade sauce, and Jim had the Deep fried oysters. All the food was great, and they insisted on buying us dessert. The three of them all had the famous bread pudding (which is an institution here in Louisiana) with white chocolate sauce...and no, you cannot possibly imagine how sweet it is! I opted for the New York Cheesecake with strawberry sauce...and wished I hadnt. It was HUGE. Even when I gave some to Waz, I still had 1/3 left. I just couldnt eat it all, and no way was I going to bring it back to the boat.

K and J took is to Super1 in Abbeville to do our shopping. Not  a large supermarket, but sufficient to purchase our fresh fruit and some veg and assorted other. We also bought 72 bottles of water, while  we had the transport. It will be more difficult for us to trolley those heavy things from the supermarket in New Orleans which is going to be about 2 kms away.

Thanks to Jim and Katherine, we have had an enlightening stay and they have been marvelous hosts and friends. We are most grateful to have them as our cruiser hosts here in Delcambre.

We will be sure to come back through on our way back to TX Christmas next year!
ha! did I just say that we are going back to Tx next year?...well, hush ma mouth!
Frankly, we dont know WHAT next year will bring, or even next month, so it is rash of me to say that. Perhaps wishful thinking?
We have put away all the groceries, had a cuppa and a small read, and waz is sawing wood next to me on the sofa:) He is tired, and I think we will turn in early tonight.

We arrived home from the grocery store to find HUGE cockroaches on the back deck. They are all over the dock outside, and we are wondering how many of them will be stowaways on ourvoyage. Bait traps will be put out as we DONT want them in the boat. they can get in anywhere, it seems.

I dont know that I want to go out and shower tonight, with them crawling all over, but it is the only place to be. The inside shower is fine, but when you have a choice..well, outside wins hands down. We wont be doing that tomorrow night in the  middle of a public dock, I can tell you.
So, au revoir for now...we may or may not have internet tomorrow night. We are on the ICW again, heading for Morgan City for one night, then on to Houma for another night, hoping to be in New Orleans on Saturday morning.
