The mission today was a Vacuum of the inside, a wash of the outside and general clean-up. It always feels so good to have a clean boat:)
We had booked the courtesy car (Chevy Van) from the Marina for 11 - 1pm. It is only available for 2 hrs, which is reasonable.
We took the time to have a cup of coffee and a grapefruit, but it was going to take too much time out of the cooler morning to make anything more complicated, so that was our breakfast. We had eaten a lot for dinner, so we weren't exactly starving.
Waz got busy with the soft long handled brush, a bucket of soapy water and hose. He washed the lower sides from the dock, and then got up onto the front deck where he washed out the chain locker, which we hadn't been able to wash out from the tank without depleting our water supply...the Anchor chain is now clean:) Meanwhile I was vacuuming the cockpit deck, and inside of the boat. I was also wiping down walls, which seem to get very dusty. Waz had received his spare parts the day we arrived (Thursday), so he had to get his head down and do the repairs. He finished that job 5 mins before we went over to pick up the vehicle.
Our first stop was the Boaters Consignment store. Looking for a spare Bilge pump. It is always good to have spares of these things.
Second stop was the Hardware store and Marine Supply. Waz found the grease nipple he sought (it had broken when he was servicing the engine three days before), and I found Webbing and buckles for the new Dinghy cover Im going to make. ...or retrofit! If we can find one that almost fits the dinghy, we will make changes necessary. I also bought enough buckles for the job should I need to make one from scratch.
JoAnn's has 60% off all fabric this weekend, so I should order some Sunbrella for the job. I also want to make some more curtains for upstairs for sun shade. The one I made earlier works so well.
Our third stop was West Marine where Waz bought a brand new bilge Pump...couldn't find one at the consignment store!.
By now it was 1pm, and we had to have the car back at the marina. I had a small amount of food left in the fridge, so we came back to the boat and made some lunch...a salad with cold chicken.
I had intended to go for a swim, this afternoon, but somehow that didn't happen. We decided, on the spur of the moment, to take the vehicle to the town of Greensboro, some 15 miles away. I booked the car for 3-5pm. Thinking we would have the whole day tomorrow (Saturday) to ourselves without HAVING to go somewhere, we decided to go for groceries this afternoon.
Just a couple of miles down the road we stopped at Paul's Produce...We like to support local growers, wherever possible.
...and look what was sitting so quietly under a tree...fluttering it's eyelashes...can you see the eyelashes on the front lights?? maybe not..and the pink cat prints going up the back?:) A Smart Car!
A Bird House...very inventive!
Such a lovely place, I had to take time to shoot some photos.
I have to say that the produce left a little to be desired, but we did purchase some eggplant, fresh strawberries, lemons and tomatoes. We thought the rest of the produce was a little old.
Onwards towards Greensboro.
On the way we passed a small storage facility in the middle of nowhere...it was called Stonewall Storage. Waz and I had some fun wondering how many stone walls they could contain, therein??well, you do, don't you? Perhaps we are easily amused:)
Well, blow me down...just down the road was a sign that said..."City Limits of Stonewall". Hmm...think we were stonewalled on that one?
We had a good chuckle and a lot of fun, with that one.:)
Food Line supermarket was pretty good, and I managed to check my last two Lottery tickets..no luck! I did buy a last one for the $132 million tomorrow night! I will have to check that ticket when we get to our next stop, about four days away.
We filled up the fridge and pantry, which was necessary...and had a wonderful dinner of fresh port chops, asparagus, squash and half a large tomato each. Yummy!
We finished off with the last of the cheesecake with strawberries and cream....just a tiny piece of cheesecake each:) I might make a lemon one next time...can I make a sugarless lemon cheesecake?
We will let you know:)
On the way back to the marina we went a different way...of course:)
Waz says this is all we can afford here! but it wasn't for sale:(
Having put all the food away, I went back upstairs to complete the window cleaning I had started earlier.
We had watched a storm from come from the east, but it went right past us to the south. The sun did it's best to stay out. The temps did come down rather suddenly, after a hot day.
I love these storm and cloud fronts...as I have said before.
As the weather closed in, and the light got dimmer, I watched this crabber doing his work, accompanied by his two Labs...both black, but you can see only one here. The older one is obviously keeping it's head down in the choppy water.
I have to say, just here, that there have been some times recently when we have been grateful that crab pots have apparently been right out in the middle of the boat channel ...but in reality, they have guided us around very shallow places, by us having to go around them. Thanks to that crabber for placing them there!
The weather has changed again, but it is still humid.
Our neighbors on the next dock have arrived for the Long Memorial Weekend. ...after dark, They brought a sheet of plywood with them, so what was a quiet day on the horizon tomorrow, for us, may yet be one disturbed by construction:( Of well...It might mean we get out again in the van!
On our way home, we went tiki-touring around the immediate area, looking at vacant lots. There was obviously a very buoyant local economy before the financial collapse...but soo many vacant lots. We did find a very nice waterfront lot..$199k, thanks! Not in our budget, unfortunately.
Well, time for me to get off here and read my book for a bit. A day off tomorrow!!! yay! and then we are off again on Sunday morning. We still have the large Albermarle Sound to negotiate in the next few days, so will be working with the excellent looking weather window, that means we should have 90F on Tuesday, when we make the crossing.
Ciao for now
