An Afternoon in Charleston - French Quarter

The breakfast was excellent...of course!

We had time to do our chores in the morning before picking up the car at noon. I shouldn't say Picking up the car, because THEY pick US up. One of the things we love about Enterprise, and why so many Loopers use them..they come to us!

We went up to the office to check out a few concerns, so I thought I would take the camera with me...surprise! :)
This Azimuth motor yacht is sitting behind us on the next dock over. We have a house boat in front of us.

I like it when we are the last boat on the T-dock...we can still shower out back on the duck board without grossing out the neighbors:)

It is a Loooong way to the end of the dock, and a looooong way to the office and facilities. You also need to watch your head on the bowsprits!

Wazzy on the dock leading to the office.
We are so far away, I don't think you can see our boat...waaaaayyyyy to the right...just the ass end of it.

So, while up at the office, we decided to take a walk over to the fish cleaning station where these fellas were cleaning Cobia...This is commonly knowns as Ling or Black Kingfish. Very meaty and very tough skin, typical of Tuna and Kingfish.
These left overs will be taken out into the marshes and dumped for the crabs to eat!. Sounds like a win/win! There were some big carcass in there.

The fishermen were throwing a fair amount of stuff over the side of the dock, and below, the seagulls were diving for it and fighting over the remains, and the turtles were in for the rest.

This is the Club House where we ate dinner, on the deck, overlooking the pool. The bar is at right where the blue is. It was humming...and tonight too!

Out over the marshes. This is about the best color I have taken, so far. Layers of it!

Back to the rental car....
A young woman arrived at noon to pick us up, in the little Ford Focus. She is studying Electrical Engineering...got a full ride to the local University (Charleston U, I think) and is specializing in Aircraft Engineering. She is finishing her Sophomore year, and already has a job offer from Delta Airlines, but the job is in Michigan...she isn't too happy about going back to the cold north:) Cant say I blame her, though the way the heat and the humidity are here, and summer isn't in full swing..a little cool might be nice! (Just sayin')
She was typical of the young folk we have encountered, who drive for Enterprise. Smart, driven and engaging. We have enjoyed so many of them.

The car is a zippy little thing (Waz says I am zipping all over in it! nah!) and we shot straight into town (being the city) from the rental shop. We had planned to park in a parking building, and it only cost us $6 for the three hours, which I thought was reasonable. It might have been a good thing, except that we ended up parking on the roof...in the sun! :( When we came back to the car at 4pm, the dial read 95F!!! Phew!

We first walked down to the Waterfront Park, which is glorious. So many people out enjoying her shady spaces, and exploring the waterfront. Children played in the fountains...what a kick!

I was tempted to join them. Mom eventually went in too and they chased her around the fountain as a giggling trio.:)

This was the view over the side of the parking roof..pretty! It is just one short block, turning right, to the waterfront park.

This was so attractive...right next door under those trees there:)

Waterfront park looking right,...

..and left...oh goody, another fountain!
Sumter Fort...significant in the history of the Area.
The USS Yorktown, aircraft carrier. We are taking these photos from the opposite bank of the river.

The jetty goes out into the harbor. Hanging swings are everywhere in this city, and we enjoyed sitting in at least one:) Great view too!

Some of the lovely buildings in the French Quarter.

This being the French Quarter, the building are very European, of course.

This old building is an original, in the French Quarter.
Hurricane shutters, mostly painted black, with flower boxes:)
A private back yard. Peaceful in the heat.
Lots of these types of chimney pots, in this city!:)
The Customs House, downtown French Quarter. A very imposing building.

It was hot and humid, as it has been all week. We finished up in the city around 4pm, and on the way back to the parking garage, we found a quaint little café where they made us real Iced Coffee...Frappucino-style. It saved our lives!:) We had Bento at a Japanese restaurant almost next to the old Markets in the French Quarter, which was fine, except that no rice came with the teriyaki chicken that Waz ordered. That meant he was hungry two hours later!.

We drove home just ahead of the going home traffic, and were happy to turn the aircon on in the boat on arrival...it was stifling, having been close dup all day.
