We took a couple of shadowy photos on houses et al, but really, there isn't much to photograph other than the sun setting, and that was when we were finally on the road. Waz had to turn around and take the pics out through the back window of the car, coz we were now heading north.
We had tried to find a place to stay, but with nothing less than $157 + tax at one B and B, and then the Hotel at $350 + tax + $25 fee for something or rather, we decided to just hit the road and go home to our own little bed...sigh!:)
Travelling at night is somehow easier, as there is less to take ones attention, and concentrating on the road is easy.
We decided on the spur of the moment to stop at the Sunset Grill, just over the bridge taking us into Marathon. Al and Kaye had recommended this place, and we were hungry by now. The tomato soup hadn't lasted that long.
We parked the car along the road where most of the other cars appeared to be parking, but when we finally found our way into the restaurant parking lot, there were plenty of spaces. Hmmm...debated going back to the car, and in hindsight, I should have.
The restaurant and bar is open to the night air, and we didn't feel we had enough clothing on to sit outside, so sat instead at the bar. We ordered a Lemon, lime and bitters. Hadn't had one of those for ages!
We also ordered food. Waz had a Baked pork dish which he enjoyed, and I ordered the Crab au Gratin which was full of crab meat and very tasty. The veg, again, seemed to come straight out of the freezer and into the microwave. No seasoning, browning or anything to make it taste good. Just squishy, watery carrots, broccoli et al. Not fun.
We chatted with the various folks at the bar, and were included in some hilarity by a couple of women who were recording themselves singing 'Margaritaville' into their I-phone and then attempting to send the recording to her favorite brother.:) It wouldn't send because the recording was too long, lol. They were a bit pissed! (drunk) and VERY happy!
Walking just outside the gate on the way back to the car, I missed the curb and sprained my ankle when I fell off the side of the road. Dark night, no light, uneven surface = sprained left ankle!
Sheesh! what next.
On the ride home I could feel my sandal getting tighter and tighter, and sure enough, on inspection with light, it was swelling up. Nothing to do but drive!
We left there about 8pm, and were on our way home.
Hitting Alligator Alley is never much fun...just 2 hrs of straight (almost) road that one has to be very awake for, at night. We did stop at the bathrooms (same as those we stopped at on the way down) to stretch legs as well.
We arrived home at 12.50am. It was cold, so we only took the essentials out of the car, and went to bed.
I could hardly stand on the foot when I got up in the morning, and was supposed to keep it up most of the day, but other things kept interfering, as they do.
Because I rolled onto the left side of the foot, that is where the swelling is, around the ankle joint! ho hum!
Tonight, after going shopping on it this afternoon, it is swollen again. Swelling went down overnight.
So, here we are, glad to be back in our own space again. We are glad we made the trip, but have decided against a whole lot of other tiki-tours. One of the reasons for that is that we just got the bill for the Boat Insurance. It is designed to curb any further expenditure for the rest of the month and beyond!
More bills coming in March, as that is when we took possession of the boat. One of the reasons we are laying low here.
Well, that is our tiki-tour down south. Im off to bed now, and hopefully the ankle swelling will subside in the night, with some rest.
Ciao for now.
