New Years Day

I made you wait to read about why the worms were biting so badly yesterday afternoon...so now I will tell you why!

We rose reasonably late, did nothing much more than have a cup of coffee, peruse the internet and answer e-mail etc, and by 10.30am we were a bit hungry. Len had told us we were expected across the road at Ros and Butch's home for a gathering, so we hot footed it to the shower. Breakfast never happened, in other words.

Another call from Len (The Social Director) told us we were expected at Penny and Carl's next door, first. Aieeeeeee!

We arrived newly minted (clean and tidy, in other words) at Penny and Carl's to discover breakfast/brunch was in the works. We both requested a Benedict, as that was on offer. We never refuse a home made Bene! and this was duly served up:) Waz enjoyed more than the Bene, but I had two soft eggs with bacon and sauce...is all.
We met the other guests and enjoyed chatting with some of them around the breakfast bar where we ate.

At around 1.pm we left there and went across the road to Butch and Ros's gathering of neighbors. All kinds of goodies were on offer there, but somehow I got so involved in playing a game (more soon) and chatting with the folks around the lanai table, that I forgot to go and eat the food in the kitchen...much of which was sugary...delicious looking ...cake etc.
I did manage to eat a good many of the salted almonds in a small container of the table, and was coerced into eating ONE macaroon and ONE small piece of choc. fudge.
The game was this: Everyone had a name placed on a stick-um stuck to their backs. They had to guess what the name was. This is a great conversation starter, and much fun was had trying to guess the name. Mine was Barbra Streisand, and Waz had Johnny Carson. Stefie had Madonna, and Len had Al Capone...hmmm....:) Ros had done well with placing the names on somehow appropriate subjects:)?

It is always good to meet and chat with ones neighbors, and yesterday was no exception. We had met Paul and Sandy from the other side (top side of the street) of Len and Stefie's, before, but we hadn't sat down and conversed, if you know what I mean. We learned lots and enjoyed all those we chatted with, had lots of laughs and finally left around 3.30pm! I had intended to vacuum, but alas that still hasn't happened. More exciting things to do... like make Tiramisu:)

By the time we exited the hardware store, I was getting to the point of no return...low blood sugar! I would have had to spend considerable time making food on our return to the boat, and we had passed the Kentucky Fried Buffet place so many times and declared that we would try it one day, that is where we decided to spend our money for dinner.
$7.99 each for all you can eat buffet dinner. Having never heard of the Colonels buffet before, we were very curious to see what was on offer. Well, it wasn't haute cuisine, but I didn't really care, at that stage. I filled the plate with their mashed potatoes and a small scoop of gravy, lots of their cole slaw, which I actually like!!, some cooked carrots, beets, and three chicken legs (the original kind). It filled the plate, and it filled me up. Waz had a variety of things including 2 thighs. We didn't like the look of the desserts, so that's why we came home and made the Tiramisu straight away:)

Considering that if you order from the Kentucky Fried Chicken menu (the normal take out kind) you would pay $7.99 for one piece of chicken (your choice), one roll, one small serving of cole slaw and sm. mashed potatoes. The value in the buffet is obvious I think. We didn't eat a lot of the coating on the chicken, but it is always nice and moist and certainly tasted fantastic, considering how hungry I was. Mission accomplished!.
No photos, today. Sorry!:(

You know the rest of the story of yesterday, so that's it, Im afraid.

We were up late again today (sheesh! these retired folk!) at around 9am, and showered before I made fresh blueberry buttermilk pancakes with bananas and blueberries on the side. That will last us for a while. It has taken all the rest of the morning to do two loads of washing (and hang them) and to write the two blogs.
We have to return the magazines to the library and go to the Hardware store again...AGAIN!

SO, off we go. BYeeeeeeeee!
