Waz and I got up relatively early this morning with the intention of going out for Sunday Breakfast. We had consulted Len and Stefie last night when we went over to share our Tiramisu and strawberries with them, and Len recommended the PGI Café in Punta Gorda Isles shopping center, saying he knew it was popular, but never having eaten there themselves.
We arrived at the café at around 9am. It was full of grey haired seniors/retirees, with the only young people in the place being...well...US!:) Nah...The wait staff were too!
Prices were reasonable, but they didn't have a Benedict on the menu, so we ordered from the Grand Breakfast. Eggs any style, two bacon, two b/fast sausages, hash browns or two pancakes.
Per usual, Waz ordered HARD (we always emphasize) poached eggs. He chose the hash browns over the pancakes. I ordered scrambled eggs and the hash browns also
The coffee was luke warm, but tasted ok. Nothing special, just from the drip pot. We were not given water.
When the eggs arrived (in a timely manner, I have to say) mine were a bit dry and over cooked, and Waz sent his back...they were still cheaping! Don't know why it is so hard to make poached eggs hard?? seems pretty simple to us. We do it all the time at home!!
We asked them to just put the eggs back in the water and cook them till they didn't jiggle any more.
They came out with yolks still running, the second time, but there was no way they were going back again, having already eaten half the breakfast.
We had to wait for a second cup of coffee, for it to be made. At least they only charged us $1.25 per cup, where most others will charge us $2.50. Refills didn't incur further charges
We were not very inspired by the place, the service or the attitude of the staff. I guess they were short staffed and the place was busy. Do these other patrons go there just because the prices are good?
We wont be back to find out. So far, John Ski's Breakfast restaurant is looking pretty good!!
While out in PGI, we decided to do a tiki-tour. It is a rather convoluted place, street-wise. Lots of canal homes and those that aren't, are on the Golf Course.
We happened upon a Model Home. This one had much going for it, even though it wasn't on the water/canal.
The kitchen was huge, but quite nicely designed....
There were other parts that were inviting, like the master bathroom...
Don't look at the wallpaper..it is rather overpowering, but some of the features were quite nice.
We still like the other home we have detailed here. It just had great colors, a great layout and we felt totally 'at home' in it. One day!:)
So, after a few more streets of looking, we had overdosed on houses and waterways/canals and the boats on them , and went home. I was inspired to vacuum. Doesn't happen very often (the inspiration part) so I thought I should take advantage of it. Waz finished cleaning off the propeller and did a few other small jobs.
We went for a walk late afternoon and met a lovely lady from Montana (been here three years now) who is growing an immense cactus in her front yard. A little bird was singing it's heart out at the very top of the cactus which was rather delightful. It certainly put a smile on our faces. We are so used to NZ songbirds, and have not really come across any since leaving there. It may have been a Northern Mockingbird, but the jury is still out on that one.
I had put the rice cooker on to cook the rice for dinner, before we left the boat, and that was well cooked by our return. I just needed to heat up the left over Curry from last night. Very easy dinner!! AND...Tiramisu for dessert! Strawberries accompanied, of course, so we are well stuffed, after all that!
Tomorrow I need to give Waz a haircut. It is long overdue. I might trim my own hair at the same time. The hairdresser didn't take enough off this last time, so I need to deal with it.
It isn't warm, but it isn't too cold either. It is 69F in the salon and we are wearing sweatshirts, but the heat isn't on...yet. Last night was soooo cold!!!
Didn't I tell you?? We woke to find FROST and ICE on the fly deck and the top of the car, nearby house roofs etc. The canal was gorgeous and smooth and the patterns of moisture on the glass upstairs was worth photographing too.
This gorgeous Hibiscus was in a pot at the Model Home we visited. It was large enough to be an Hawaiian type.
Here we are, sitting around finishing our computering and we are going to watch some more TV shows shortly, on Waz's computer.
That's it for tonight, folks.
Tomorrow is Monday! yay! I do like Mondays. Enjoy the week.
