It is so nice to be able to GO somewhere...anywhere...and not have to look up the public (almost non-existent ) transport.
Having spent the weekend without a vehicle we were ready to have wheels.
As I have said, Len arranged for Avis to pick us up and give us an upgraded car...I have photos! :)
She is a very comfy car with enough horses to get us where we want to go in style. Thanks Avis!...and Len!
These photos were taken outside the 2nd hand marine store...Mariners Trading. Most towns on the coast have one. You might remember my photos of the one in Texas??That place was horrendous by comparison to the one we were in today....I wonder if it makes a difference having a woman at the helm? Our owner today was well organized, that's for sure. Everything in it's place and a place for everything. So easy to shop...and buy...but we didn't. We did find a few things we MIGHT need, but later.
We didn't leave the boat until just on noon. I didn't sleep well last night. The bed was lumpy, the air was hot, waz snored...well, you know how it goes...too many things going around in my head. I made muffins (again) without sugar (honey), pulled the boat out of the water in New Orleans (huh?)...as Waz says, everything but sleeping.
I got up at around 1.30am and did some research on the computer...not a good idea, but didn't want to read a book either.
So....eventually we rose at around 8.45. Len knocked in the hull not long after and delivered the mail...hence the previous rant about medical bills and the state of the Medical Nation in USA!
We had gone to the Publix supermarket yesterday for a few essentials after we had lunch at Panera. Chicken noodle soup and half a sandwich. not too bad, and then we found a Marshalls, didnt find any foodstuffs, but I did finally find a more suitable handbag (over the shoulder kind) for evening wear and one that I can wear pretty much anywhere. Good thing too. We have some social events coming up that I need it for.
We found a Bed, Bath and Beyond for a certain gift item (can't be more specific in case the recipient is reading this:) ) and came home late afternoon.
Today we left the boat, as I said, around noon with the intention of driving across to Cape Haze/Boca Grande. We did pass the former, but didnt get to the latter. This seems to happen a lot with us:)
First up, we drove down the next street over which we had walked down the night before on our evening walk. It looks different in daylight, of course, and the homes we had liked in the dark were even better in daylight, thank goodness.
On the way back to the main road (Edgewater), we had to stop and wait for these Ibis to cross the road.
After having spent a good half hour in the Mariners Trading company we were rather hungry. These places have a habit of doing that to you!. We stopped near Cape Haze for a Subway sandwich. Waz got that and I got a salad, which was more than enough food. Carrying on towards Boca Grande, we took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in Edgewater. A cute little beachside/bayside settlement. The main drag had some interesting shops...one antique store which we spent around half an hour in...seeing antiques we thought you might only find in England or NZ.
These chairs were sitting outside waiting for some sitters, by the look of them.
We stopped off for an ice-cream...Tsk tsk...but it was good! and we then continued on to the Edgewater Beach, after asking instructions on how to get to the sandy beach.
I just had to take a photo of this tricycle, which belonged to an elderly fellow sitting on a bench nearby. There are some interesting and amazing vehicles cobbled together by resident seniors:)
These folks said the water is a little cool...sheesh! I tell you...some people will complain about anything. It was WARM! compared to...??? but it wasn't 85F. It might have been 81 or 82F.
Waz was handed the camera on the return trip and asked to take photos of 'interest' for this blog. I'm unhappy to say that none of them are worth putting up here...somehow he managed to get his own back and took plenty of photos of my not so beautiful side:)..I was driving so didnt have the ability to retaliate! ah well....this is obviously an ongoing challenge, lol
We had seen the Sam's Club on the way out of town and said we would come back and investigate it on the way home. We did.
There isn't a Costco in town... we would have to drive an hour or more to find one, so we decided to become members of Sam's Club. $100 a year, thanks. WOW! We had better make good use of it in order to get our money's worth. But isn't that what they want you to do?:)
So, we bought large containers of strawberries, raspberries, some lettuce and other veg/fruit and will go back when we need other things. Best to use it now while we can. Bulk buying isn't always available to us.
Tomorrow I will go and investigate a job that was advertised online at a craft store. I don't know if the job is still open, but it sounded quite fun. Teaching people to make crafty items, selling product...Salary plus commission. I'm good at sales, so that might work out well for me. Again, we will see.
Waz has filled out an application for West Marine, I think...they aren't far away and he would enjoy that. We just want to keep occupied and earn some dollars at the same time. Cant sit around all day if we aren't travelling.
Well, I'm off to bed. Let's hope I sleep better tonight.
Ciao for now.
